Good morning from Hakuba and a very Happy New Year to you all.

Did you have fun on the last evening of the year?

Snowy conditions to start off 2014. Just a light cover in village, and resorts around the valley reporting a few up to 10cm on higher elevations this morning. It's snowing now and pretty good too. As I am writing this it's coming down in style, nice big flakes too. Temperature is down there and it's a cold morning, currently around -3 degrees. Not much of a wind but the snowfall is making for generally poor visibility on the slopes.

Snow should ease off tomorrow and we might get to see clearer conditions on Friday.

You'll be seeing lots of small special events and things going on today to celebrate the New Year. The Janken-taikai (rock-paper-scissors) competition at Hakuba 47 at noon sounds particularly exciting! ;) Failing that, just get out to enjoy a first slide of the year.
