Good morning from Hakuba.
It is officially the first day of the ski season. Hurray!
We have a some cloud but generally nice blue sky at the moment.
Lower parts of the mountains are still green/brown, but there's enough snow up top for Tsugaike to get going from this morning.
That ski area is reporting a snow depth of 50cm up on the top area and yesterday were saying that the Gondola and Tsuga No 2 pair lift would be operating today. As of 10:30am, I'm looking at the official site and it shows only the gondola moving. Not sure what's going on there, as I can definitely see skiers on the webcam (below; I'm jealous). Hardly the most promising start in terms of timely information being released to the public, but enough of that ---- it's time to celebrate the start of the winter season!
Good snowfall is expected on Wednesday and Thursday... down to village level.
