Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 8cm
Snowfall at base this season 156cm

Posted on Tuesday 18th February 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Resorts are reporting 10-20cm of fresh snowfall on their upper areas and 5-10cm down at base. And I have measured 8cm.

(Phew).

Should be a good morning!

Back to being cold too, so get wrapped up well.

Hopefully there'll be more to report tomorrow too as it continues to snow.

Less good news is stronger winds affecting lifts at the Happo-one resort. As of 9am, the gondola and upper lifts are on hold. It appears that just the Nakiyama triple and Kokusai Number 1 pair are going up from base. Cortina has some restrictions too but other resorts appear to be opening as normal, which brings me to....

Regarding details of individual ski resort operations - I continue to do my best providing as many details as possible each morning, but operations change literally every day; and sometimes during the day. Such changeable conditions means that covering the situation is... difficult.

I highly recommend that if you are here in Hakuba and heading out to a ski resort, you check with your chosen destination before going. If you are staying at an accommodation I am sure the staff there will be able to help too.
