Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 352cm

Posted on Sunday 17th February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Hakuba.

And here's the new snowfall that I can find being reported by ski resorts this morning:

Hakuba Happo-one: 15cm (top of Riesen lift)

Hakuba Cortina: 5cm (base); 15cm (top)

Hakuba Goryu: 0cm (base); 5cm (top)

And just a little bit down below so I'd head up to hit that fresh on the upper slopes.

Lots of cloud around early on but blue sky and sun has been appearing places and it feels like we'll get more of that as the day goes on.

No-one could truthfully claim that this season has been 'classic' in terms of the amount of snowfall in this region, and we are all ever-hopeful for decent dumps of fresh snow. It's not looking like we are going to be able to celebrate that scenario over the coming week though. If anything, it is looking like the whole wider region is going to be warming up a bit with more sun than snow either side of Tuesday and Wednesday - when there's a good chance of some rain. Hmmmmm. Damn, I so don't want to have to report that kind of thing. :(

Anyhow. Swiftly recovering my mood, it's pretty cold this morning and so I'm going to go and enjoy the nice morning conditions. :)

Have a fun Sunday.
