Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 15cm
Snowfall at base this season 487cm

Posted on Thursday 16th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Hakuba greetings to you all. There's more snow.

Cortina, the most northerly ski area in 'the valley' is reporting the most new snowfall this morning, 50cm. Others are showing more modest - but still respectable - numbers, as you can see below in the list.

There has surely got to be a typo going on with the Happo-one snowfall numbers this morning. An incredible 105cm at Kurobishi and only 5cm at Usagidaira? That's what it says. Just noticed that the time stamp on the 105cm is from yesterday. Please bring your own salt.

My own measurement is 15cm.

At 8:45am we have a mix of visibility, ranging from very poor in places to good in others.

Some blue sky is starting to appear in places and it feels like we might get to see more of that later in the day, though we do expect some more snow before tomorrow morning.

Beyond tomorrow, weekend visitors might be pleased to see sunshine forecast for Sunday. There's actually not much snowfall forecast through at least the middle of the week so from the weekend we might have to make so with what we have for several days.

But we have plenty, and conditions are excite and fab.
