Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 364cm
Posted on Friday 16th February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.
After the warmth (and rain later on), we have very clearly colder conditions and a little snowfall this morning.
Ski areas are reporting up to 5cm on the slopes so there's a modest amount of fresh to play in! (Close to ski area bases it ranges from slight dustings, just over 1cm on the top of my car and around my house).
It has been snowing lightly early morning and, while there is even some sun appearing down in the village, visibility on the mountains seems very limited this morning.
Wind is an issue too and is affecting some upper ski lifts at the start of the day.
The clouds are probably going to clear this morning and it should thankfully remain cold today.
(Fast forward to tomorrow: a return to sun and milder temperatures).
