Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 380cm

Posted on Saturday 15th March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Hakuba, and a fine morning it is as well. Lots of blue sky above Hakuba village this morning, some clouds still hanging on around the peaks of the mountain backdrop, but mostly fine and sunny. A splattering of snow on the mountains though a few cm at most.

It got quite cold overnight with a low of -5C, but by mid afternoon today it should have risen to perhaps around +5C.

Tomorrow should continue with the sun in the morning and it's due to get warmer than today and rain is expected later on. Hopefully once the lifts have stopped for the day, and there might be some snowfall at higher elevations at night.

Warmer temperatures through at least the first half of the coming week and more chance of rain than snow. Though, there's some promise around Thursday of the chance of a cold snap and more snowfall so let's keep an eye on that.

For now though, best to come expecting spring conditions and enjoy them for what they are.

Quite a few events going on today on the slopes - at Happo-one alone they have the All Nihon Technical Competition at Usagidaira, Ladies Snowsurf Day at Happo Banks and the Hakuba Snowshoe Trail run at Nakiyama. Gambatte everyone!
