Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 54cm
Snowfall at base this season 300cm

Well, it has really kicked off over the last day!

First up, here's new snowfall news from around ski areas (who are to varying degrees struggling to open as normal):

Goryu are reporting a super whopper 100cm of new snowfall! Well, they seem to be on the Valley official site. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! (I don't think I have ever seen a three digit report before).

Cortina is going with 60cm, as is Happo-one at Usagidaira.

Tsugaike come in with an impressive 56cm.

Iwatake are reporting with 30-50cm.

Yes, we have had a lot of snow in the last day.

There's been an avalanche by the Number 4 lift at Hakuba Cortina. They are just open with their Number 1 pair and Number 2 quad lifts this morning as they deal with the situation.

As I mentioned earlier, some lifts are struggling to open this morning including the gondola and top lifts at Hakuba Goryu, the gondola at Happo-one and the top part of Tsugaike.

Super extra care is needed in these conditions.

It's truly great to see loads of snow everywhere. (I'm continuing my 'blacking out the News' thing too, so blissfully just able to take all this beautiful goodness in).

Tomorrow there might be some sun and it goes without saying that conditions should be top notch.
