Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 21cm
Snowfall at base this season 245cm

Posted on Wednesday 12th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

The good news is that we have fresh snow. Ski areas are reporting 30-50cm (Goryu winning the biggest number prize) across the mountains. Nice.

Problem is that it's windy, so you can't get up to lots of that lovely snow. Right now just base lifts at Happo-one are open and top lifts at 47/Goryu, Iwatake and Tsugaike are also on hold.

The forecasts show more snow across today, tomorrow and Friday. It would seem that the heaviest snow is due later in the day tomorrow, so we're going to be getting lots of snow. Would be good if the wind eased off and let the lifts move...

-----

In recent days there have been a few cases of ski areas announcing members of staff testing positive for you-know-what. It doesn't seem to have been affecting operations. Let us hope there's not more of that kind of news...
