Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 455cm

Posted on Tuesday 5th January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.

Had great skiing today with a little person and found excellent powder on every run. On me (a tall person) it was thigh deep to knee deep, on my pint sized companion it was waist deep. Twice she lost her skis in it which made for some digging adventures but we found them. She loves side country!

It snowed all day and possibly all last night. Even where it was groomed overnight there was between 10cm and 30ish cm on top at 9.30am.

No wind today although we did experience one gust - it lasted less than a minute, we just stopped and let it go by.

It was -7C in Kitanomine this morning, now around -5C.

This snow last night and today is light and dry. I think we are back on track with normal Furano dry snow and it's good and cold.

When I left this morning my neighbour was clearing about 15cm or so of fresh snow from the driveway. When I got home this afternoon, you almost couldn't even tell he'd done it.
