Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 18cm
Snowfall at base this season 37cm

Posted on Saturday 30th November 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.

And we're off! But we're not out of the woods yet.

A good chunk of snow fell overnight, and the forecast calls for snow for the next several days. Unfortunately, that thorny temperature issue says that will sometimes be rain. Booooo!! Hate that word.

Anyway, first legit snow in my book. Looks like most of it will stay.

Think cold thoughts.

Update at 11:30am:

Good news!

The ski area will open from tomorrow morning.

If they follow usual pattern, only the D lift will open in the Furano Zone. Guests will ride Ropeway up and down the mountain to access the lift - cannot ski to bottom. The resort claims 55cm at top, but their own webcam shows just over 20cm. Base reports 10cm, but that clearly doesn't include last night/this morning snow. (I stand by my 18cm in the original morning report, and there has been more since then).

They will announce open lifts tomorrow morning and that information will be included in the next report.

(* All data in this report remains from the original morning report).
