Good Morning Skiers and Boarders,
Like so many times this season, a promising snow dies out in a few hours. Sigh.
Only 5 cm of new stuff today. Better than nuttin', I suppose, but not by much.
Today is a national holiday celebrating the founding of Japan, hence translated as Foundation Day. I'm sure they're not alluding to the Isaac Asimov books, but what if they were?? Anyway, for your edification from Wikipedia:
"February 11 is the accession date of the legendary first Emperor of Japan, Emperor Jimmu at Kashihara-gū, converted into Gregorian calendar of 660 BC."
So Japan, as an entity is only 2,685 years old. Take THAT to the bank you European and European-derived upstart countries!!
Due to the national holiday, night skiing will run to 7:30 PM.
Also, tomorrow night is the annual Mid-Winter Beer Party. All-you-can-drink beer. Need I say more? That should draw in the hordes. Oh, also taiko drumming, local food, and a raffle with some great prizes.
