soubriquet 0
Any Javascript gurus out there? I've written some code, and it runs nicely in Internet Explorer and Opera, but not Netscape. I'm looking for any sites or information about known incompatabilites with different browsers. TIA.
montoya 0
hi soubriquet, try googling "javascript netscape incompatibilities" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=javascript+netscape+incompatibilities if it's giving real headaches, I would maybe try for an easier cross-platform route, such as rewriting it in Flash or on the back-end (eg using PHP, etc). soubriquet 0
Thanks man. Maybe if I'd got my spelling correct, google would have been a bit more forthcoming.
soubriquet 0
From the first hit: http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/011200-1.shtml "BTW: Keep in mind DO NOT place any of your JavaScript inside tables what-so-ever...This will only lead to problems!" Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Too effing right. Montoya. Could you amplify this: "..such as rewriting it in Flash or on the back-end (eg using PHP, etc)." Sorry, my background is science rather than computing, but I've done some Java units at uni. Cheers
sava 0
you could do a java applet but i think for what you're tring to do, flash would be easiest
montoya 0
if it is not feasible in javascript, I meant try creating it in Flash, using Actionscript (which is now very similar to javascript): http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/flashpro/?promoid=BINT or, conversely using the PHP language: http://www.php.net/ Not quite sure what you are creating, so kinda hard to recommend what route to take. soubriquet 0
Thanks both. I didn't make the connection between flash and macromedia. I'd have to buy it, so that's out. If actionscript is free then that's an option. I'm writing myself a kana tutor, similar to chipchat, but with a bunch more options and without all the bugs. Different format too. So it's a heap of buttons and checkboxes, a randomiser and window for the gifs. My programming experience is limited to IDL, all procedural and command line stuff. I found Java to be tricky, and never got as far as graphics, so I'm using Javascipt to take the pain out of that side. At this stage, it's just for me, so the Netscape problem isn't an issue. If it is any use I'd like to put it up somewhere, and I'd hate it to go out half baked. Thanks again, and I'll follow up your suggestions tomorrow montoya.
