    Where have you been looking?

I have you looked on ebay. All seem to come with bindings. I walked round the sport shops in Glasgow All with bindings wakaranai

Just to clarify... Is there a specific binding you want to mount to a pair of skis? Or is there a specific ski you want to mount to a binding? Or is this actually something along the lines of noboarding? Otherwise I'd just buy the set.

I have binding. there is nothing the matter with them so why should I buy a pair I just want skis. veryangry

Now I see why you want just the skiis. However, I'm guessing you're looking to get them in the UK, so I won't be of much help here in Japan. If you are looking in Japan though you shouldn't have much trouble getting unmounted skiis. It still might end up being cheaper to get the set, once you figure in the extra cost to mount them.

any of them in a snow area ?? razz

According to wifey, you've just got to ask about it at city hall. Our town apparently offers 600,000 yen per year for 2 years to people moving in and building a new house. Not a bad chunk of change.

A question - how do you know where to tunnel?

Another? - why is the water not frozen?

The tunnel gets dug in the same spot every year. It's kind of tough to see in one of the pictures, but there's a sort-of natural dam at the end of the tunnel where the melted snow (water) accumulates. From late June to late Aug it doesn't usually drop below freezing, so the snow is continually melting. However, by early Sept the flow does start to slow down, and usually in mid-Sept the last of the snow has melted. The hose and wire then get taken down until the next year when it get dug yet again.

  5. Mattaus - which part of the US/Canada were you thinking of? If it's the East Coast, I'd say fire away with questions, but I'm guessing you're looking out West.

As Creek Boy said, tgr is a great place for info. If you're a tele skiier then there's also a telemarktalk forum; if you're a new schooler then there's a newschoolers forum; if you're an epic skier then there's an epicski forum; etc etc.

But I reckon there's a few North Americans here on SJ that can give you a little advice and point you in the right direction as well.

  6. Part II:

And at the end of day 1, the tunnel has reached the 10m mark..

Capped off with another beautiful sunset...

On Day 2, the remaining 4m of the tunnel are finished...

    June29th09006-new.jpg

And at the end, water is struck...

Next, the cable is strung and the hose attached...

    July4th09011-new.jpg

And finally the water flows to the storage tanks...

...supplying enough water for over 10,000 people over the next 4 months.

    O-wa-ri

  7. Although no skiing was involved, there was snow, and lots of it.

If any hikers/climbers have ever wondered where the water comes from at some of the huts in the mountains, this is the answer for one...

    When: June 28th and 29th, 2009

    Where: Northern Alps

It all begins with a short climb to the Mizutori Sawa ...

    June28th09015-new.jpg

    June29th09019-new.jpg June28th09023-new.jpg

And the tunnel commences with a little chainsawing, digging, and snow dumping...

    June28th09048-new.jpg

    June28th09049-new.jpg

    And keeps on continuing...

    June28th09056-new.jpg

With a short break for lunch...
