That'd be the one I think. Looks like it closed a lot longer than five years ago though. A lot of the tourist places there were closed and falling apart. Nearly all the tourists up there with us were Korean or Chinese. My colleagues were surprised.

I was in Kyushu last week on business and we took a quick side trip to Aso whilst there. I was intrigued to see the now rusting lifts on the way down. My companions (neither of whom are from Kyushu) knew nothing about it. I've done some searching and come up with virtually nothing.
Does anyone remember the ski area/lifts on Mount Aso? If so what was the name (Asosan I think) and when/why did it close? Presuming it was a result of the bursting bubble...

Naeba - Only good if you're looking to get out of Tokyo quickly
Hakuba - Great range of terrain and facilities.

Forget which one I skiied first - pretty sure it was Hakuba.

Thredbo (the great 'Funnel Web') 5.9km
Longest run in Japan:
Suginohara 8.5km
Okay, so Suginohara is longer. But is it better?

I think the only way I'd go back snowboarding in Oz is for the sheer novelty. Even throwing Jetstar flights in, two weeks in Nagano is almost as cheap, if not cheaper, as two weeks in Thredbo (not to mention snow quality).

Some of the locals I talked to hadn't heard anything recently either. Not a good sign. This time last year there was a rumour that someone was going to take it on but it all came to nought. A real pity. Still, I think it was the right idea - just in the wrong place. Nozawa, Shiga, Hakuba or Akakura would have been better.

Sorry, haven't been on the boards for ages.
We were there quite late during the season - usually closes around 11 unless they're not busy. Pretty late for Myoko anyway.

There is a great okonomiyaki place in Myokokogen called Yamagishi. The chu-hai are rocket fuel! It's just near the Myokokogen Hospital and Post office. Any cab driver should know it.

You can't buy a common ticket. Individual day passes will set you back about Y4,000, although you can get discount via the local 7-11 or pick up discount coupons via the resort websites or the local tourist centre.
