  1. My Sympathies MB. I just lost one of my closest friends. We grew up together, Partyed WAY to much and enjoyed life to the max.

She was diagnosed with stomach cancer 18 months ago and died 2 weeks ago. It was very hard for me when I went to see her and she had just been told there was nothing else they could do for her.

What did I say. Here she was asking me about my niece's wedding, my ski trip etc and here I was in my mind thinking you are not even going to see your daughter reach 16. I left broken hearted everytime but at least we spoke as if she was one day going to get out of hospital. Her last 2 weeks were spent dosed heavily on Morphine and sleeping as the pain was to much. One of my last promises to her was to take her a beer. Unfortunately she died before she could have it. RIP my friend.

  2. M I ruined my first digital camera and video cam in Canada - it was just to cold for them and when we got back all our snow video sound like and engine running with sand in it and the camera simply died.

I then bought a Sony cyber shot I have a spare neck warmer and I wrap it up in that take it out take the photo's and then wrap it up again and stick it inside my jacket. It is now on it's 3rd ski trip.

I am a very amateur holiday photographer but my photo's are my memories so they are important to me!

  3. HI M

Mike and Mamabear are spot on. Get a bus into kutchan (only takes 15mins and there are 2 major supermarkets to chose from and a couple of smaller ones, they also sell alcohol in them and some crazy looking moonshine 5LTs for about $10.

We found having breakfast included we didn't need anything to eat until that night and then you can eat pretty cheaply. Octopus Balls from the local vendor on the hill after a day skiing were YUMMY and filling for Mr Snowhunter and CHEAP.

Everyone is in the same boat but you will be fine even with the economy crash you still will be able to have a good time cheaply. smile

Oh yeah and the meals on the hill are also YUMMY and only about $14 AUS and they are HUGE!

  4. M you must have the lonely planet Japanese book. I was cracking up with some of the Romance & Dating lines you can learn. I also bought another really good book that is full of everyday conversation and it is done in phonetic's.

Lonely Planet dialogue book did come in very handy when we were lost in Otaru and about to miss the last train back to Kutchan.

I had a Japanese friend teach me some essential Japanese - On later examination I would have probably been thrown in jail or insulted everyone I spoke to!!! omg

  5. If we look back through the years.

Honolulu was the place to go lei's on arrival, swaying palm trees, beautiful smiling locals, white sandy beachs and golden tans - in come the developers more hotels Bigger hotels to accomodate and lure the tourists. They then found that all the buildings they had built on the beach cast shadows over the beach by 2oclock and the beautiful white beachs were now in shade - the Hawaiian experiece became a visit to an over commericalised island. Tourist found somewhere else to go for that experience so they started going to Surfers Paradise.

Surfers Paradise - Beautiful Beaches, the smell of coconut oil drifting through the air, bird watchers bar, beer gardens, locals mixing with tourists, mini mokes - In come the developers Sky Scrapers, Trendy cafe's, expensive shops (some only for the asian trade), porsches, mercedes and now all the die hard locals stay away and now it is just like a complete tourist town with no feel about it. So tourist numbers go down and they look for somewhere else to go.

I hope this doesn't happen to Niseko. Even when we where there we noticed all the new apartments being built on prime land.
