  1. +1 has one of the fitbit ones, tells time plus a few other nifty things, such as number of steps taken, number of stairs (equivalent) climbed. Synch to iPod via bluetooth (but needs net access to initiate) and will then tell the state of your sleeping patterns as well.

I cannot see myself wearing a watch to bed, but some of the stuff is interesting. It was neat to have an indication of the distance walked when in Nepal, trekking.

  2. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is trying to get a word in edgewise between these jocks catching up ...

Just paid accom at Alp Hotel at Akakura Onsen. January 21 for 8 nights! Cannot wait! :highfive:

    Phew!! - that was close.

I arrive at Hotel Alp Jan 30th for ten nights after 5 nights at Madarao.

Missed you by that much JA

I'll try to make sure there's still some wine left for you, then junkman! :p

  3. Church??

And pander to the imaginary friend that these people have? Not likely!

I arose at 8, had brekky and then did a bit of work. Had coffee break at 10, did a bit of talking about stuff with +1 and then lunch at 1ish. Sat around on the emails for the arvo, dined around 6 and have sat here watching telly and drinking wine since. Badness included a couple Ferrero Rocher chocs with one of the glasses of white had since dinner!

Tough life, but someone has to keep the end up!

  4. I'm on a $20 a month basic mobile plan. Have had it for years and years, and just buy a new phone, transfer the SIM between them. My provider (Telstra in Aus) would love me to upgrade, as they no longer offer this plan, but I am not willing to upgrade as I use the phone mainly as a reception device - ie I answer calls but do not make many - rather than a data/calling device.

I use a computer/tablet for data (utilising wifi as required for access) to get data.

For me (older but not luddite!) a telephone is for talking to people using voice or text. Data is far more readily used on a tablet or computer.

  5. STUDENTS getting exam results have been reassured that even if they did less well than hoped, the whole thing is a load of bollocks.

Senior lecturer Tom Booker said: “It all seems like a big deal, especially if you’ve got aspirational middle class parents on your case.

“But whether you get into a good university or not, you aren’t going to learn very much. It’s just as pointless as school.

“The entire sum of human knowledge is on the internet anyway, if you’re really that interested.”

Booker confirmed that the main point of getting a degree was so that potential employers do not chuck your CV straight in the bin.

“But you can always lie about that stuff, it’s not like they’re going to check.”

Exam results in UK including a relative.

Are they worth it though? I think uni was in the end all about the experience and having the piece of paper, and what it said on it wasn't particularly important.

And with the cost of going to uni in the UK pretty mad these days...

Until someone actually checks the stuff you're doing and finds that it's illegal/unsafe. One case over here of a bloke who stole a degree from a mate, and proceeded to use that as an entree to various engineering jobs, including designs and verification of builds on a Coal Handling plant. He's in jail, and the coal co is red faced!

  6. That is one heck of a CV listing right there!

My memories of him include his seminal Mork & Mindy episodes, Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society and any number of absolutely hillarious TV "Current Affairs" interviews done here is Aus.

The TRV stations are falling over themselves to run outtakes of their interviews, and he seems more and more funny/outrageous in these than in his "comedy" shows.

    He will be missed!
