  1. That really depends on what you mean by "unbearable hot".

We flew out of Tokyo last week when the temp was (late evening) around 7deg C. Flew into Brisbane at 7am and already 22deg, have had 35 or 6 a couple of days since, no real biggie, expected somewhere around that temp for the middle of summer. Was a bit of a shock to get out of the plane in our winter gear and have to find a change room, tho.

My point is that "hot" is relative.

  2. Have a wander around the Ginza area. In particular, look for the Sapporo Ginza Lion Beerhall on Chuo dori runs north(ish) from near the Shimbashi station. They do a great Lamb Ghengis Khan and have great atmosphere.

We took a sumidagawa cruise from Asakusa to the Hama rikyu gardens, had a walk around there for a bit. Also went to see Kappabashi dori (kitchenware street) where the plastic food samples are made for restaurants. Sunday when we were there so all closed, but the samples were amazing.

So many cool places to go on the big smoke. Try Akihabara for electronic stuff - don't have to buy, just gaze in awe and wonderment!

  3. What Ezo said ... There is no problem with getting the limo bus unless there are 4 of you and two of the tickets are for the next bus and the next two are for a bus an hour later! Happened to us a week ago.

Easy to exchange the early tickets for another 2 on the later bus, just caused a bit of mirth.

  4. All this talk about not much snow! JAYSUS, I skiied on a "reported" cover of just 12 cms a few years ago. OK, that was in OZ, and it was a crap season, but to say, as Mongoose does

measurements mean nothing..when the sassa's buried then the season ridings start..always has been the yard stick..if it aint burued it aint on period.
shows how spoiled for snow you guys are.

I guess that's why I'm heading back up there from Oz in a couple of days time, for the third season in a row.

  5. I have a Navman and have installed the latest Aus maps. It is great so long as you realise that it doesn't rely on satellites to navigate, it uses the satellite to determine your location, that is all!

What it does with the location info is determine a route, using the maps internalised to the machine, from current location to desired location. That this requires some serious computational manipulations should surprise no-one. So, the time to recalc a route when you go "wrong" is a non-trivial exercise.

Add to that the fact that the maps are stored internally from CD, then you will realise that they are usually not instantly updated (you generally have to buy an update - another non-trivial exercise in dollar terms) and the potential exists for significant confusion. My manual says "Remember this unit is an aid to navigation, it is NOT an autopilot." The inference here being that you should not rely entirely upon the system, it should be used only as a guide.

  6. Trouble is most of them have forgotten that the intent of making "music" is for people to listen to it. Watching music is wierd!

The you tube stuff is not an indication of skill at anything other than making a movie and shoving it at the net. No musical ability required (in fact some say that musical ability is a distinct DISadvantage)

  7. JD,

Did that very thing last Jan. We stayed at Il Cuore at Namba, a short walk to JR station Namba and a absolute hoot!

We got a JR West rail pass for 4 days and went to Nara for a day, Himeji to see the castle and to Osaka-Jo (the castle at Osaka). Glad we did it in that order as the Osaka-jo was a great disappointment - just a museum, really! The outside looks impressive but the interior is nothing like authentic.

OTOH, Himeji was purchased by a local businessman when it was listed for demolition (cost him in the order of AUD1.50 - not a misprint - about a buck fifty!). Then he proceded to get the government to pay for the authentic restoration of the casltle and surrounds. Most impressive. Do a tour through if you can - it is magic!

Rain? I seem to remember what that is ... or was it my grandpa told me about it? confused.gif

Actually, have just had a reasonable month (slightly up on the long term average) which will slightly compensate for the previous 3 months of well below average rainfall here (and October was a rain free month for us!).

Needed to get new wiper blades because the old ones had gone hard from too much solar and not enough work.

Thats exactly what the Median is.

No!! Not so! Whoever told you that was WRONG, WONG, WRONG!

The mean is the total divided by the number of items (which is what SJ does). The median is the central item, so for example given the following items 12, 24, 26, 27, 39, 98, 100, the median would be 27.
    the mean would be (12 + 24 + 26 + 27 + 39 + 98 + 100)/7

Take a look at the simple explanatory page here

    LAUGH!
So ... as a woman is it politically correct to describe snow as "ballz deep" when I am out there ....?

I have a couple of suggestions, but none, I suspect, are suitable for polite company..... ;\)

Crotch deep would cover all possibilities ... Have to wonder at the potential for problems if the description "nip deep" was made by a 2m giant and my +1 (a little over 1.6m) attempted, she'd almost disappear!

That's the reason the measurements are made in a standard like metres, to avoid problems.
