Hi all
My friends and I are going to try a few more different resorts again this year. I assume the "Tokaichi" mentioned above was meant to be "Tokachi"?
Are there any resorts in Tokachi? (the snowjapan search gave no results) or is it all backcountry touring? Is Sahoro considered part of Tokahi?

edit: I've looked at this again, perhaps I'm confusing volcanic Mount Tokachi (in Daisetsuzan) with the town Tokachi?

Yep, the bus does stop at the train station (the stop is just on right as you exit the station). It took us to the Suginohara car park - where the hotel owner picked us up - in a snow-cat ! (the accom was half-way up the mtn) -

well I've sorted my accommodation out at Suginohara.
would someone be able to confirm that the number & size of lifts have changed since this data was entered?

I see number9 found a couple of great links to accommodation, anyone got a recommendation for one Pensions in particular? Close to lifts? Expensive?

"183cm 77kg" - yeah, you won't need a long board. As Kumapix suggested, an "all-mountain" board is what you should try.
With the exchange rate looking so good, buying in Japan would probably work out cheaper, although I personally buy my boards/bindings from websites in the states, but I buy all my clothes & boots here in Sydney.

I'm about the same size as your friend. I've ridden a 164cm wide-ish board in Hakuba snow & it was a lot of fun in the powder. (I've also tried a 160cm twin-tip in the japan powder .... much more work, less fun)

Clag is also the name of the glue kids use here in Australia during primary school. I think they use it because when when kids eat it, it doesn't make them too sick.

I'm thinking about buying an additional 4GB Hitachi Microdrive for my Everio.
Here in Aust, they currently cost around AU$240 (21,000 yen)

Its probably better to look at whats happened this year at the resorts rather than historical data.

well we're staying with you fattwins so I promise we'll be on our best behaviour. almost.
one good thing aussies bring to japan is our wine. did I read on some thread fattwins you like a drop of red? or was that someone else?

I think there must be a lot of aussies like my friends and I. Our first two japan trip included some time in Niseko, but this year we'll be heading to Hakuba instead.
I guess Hakuba is full of aussies as well, but it can't be anything like the huge numbers in Niseko.

Plenty of cheap pensions around if you have a car and as black diamond said the resort is well priced

My friends and I are going to do a couple of days at Tomamu (then Sahoro, then Asahidake, then Kurodake) - we are arriving at the end of Jan (with a van). On a weekend, will we need to book a pension first for Tomamu? We always book in advance, but if we can just rock up & find a place, then ..... maybe we should risk it.
got any recommended pensions for tomamu?
