  1. Thanks. I did a bit of looking round here. You can get some cheap deals, but mostly crappy looking things. Some opticians seem willing to put lenses into them but as nagoid said one or two also refused to do it (for the sake of my eyes apparently). I think I'll wait for summer when I go back home.

  2. Did we have this one before?

I'm looking for some cool sunglasses. Preferably ones that I can get made up in my prescription. I'm planning on having it done back home as that'd be much easier and probably cheaper.

Elegant and stylish is what I'm thinking (not sporty)

  3. The Seven Ages of Paris by Alistair Horne

You might like this one, db.

     Quote:
London is male, New York sexually ambivalent, writes Horne. But "has any sensible person ever doubted that Paris is fundamentally a woman?" The renowned historian (The Fall of Paris, etc.) thus conceives of his history of the city of lights as "linked biographical essays, depicting seven ages... in the long, exciting life of a sexy and beautiful, but also turbulent, troublesome and sometimes excessively violent woman."

Police track heroin ring after 3 foreigners, Japanese die in Roppongi

    Sunday, June 13, 2004 at 07:33 JST

TOKYO — Heroin components have been detected in the bodies of three foreign nationals and a Japanese who died in March and April in Tokyo, police officials said Saturday, adding they suspect a heroin trafficking ring is active in Roppongi.

Seven other people, including Americans and Japanese, were hospitalized from March to May for symptoms believed to be due to drug intake, the police said.

Heroin components were found in a 21-year-old female Brazilian dancer who died at a hospital after collapsing in the Roppongi area in March, and the three others — a 46-year-old Canadian man, a 33-year-old American man and a 30-year-old Japanese woman — died in April, they said.

Cocaine components were also detected in the body of the Canadian man, they said.

The police have arrested several of the people who were hospitalized on suspicion of drug control law violation and are trying to track down trafficking routes. (Kyodo News)

  5. Recently I went back home for a short time and felt lucky to get one of the seats behind an emergency exit on the plan so I could strech my legs out.

When I arrived at my seat, I saw I was next to another gaijin. Middle aged bloke, quite fat. Hmm, Ok I though. Take off - ok.

Then it happened. He took his (dirty looking) trainers off and I could almost SEE a wave of SMELL coming up from his very dirty looking socks. It was disgusting.

Luckily the plane wasnt too full so I could find another decent seat, but if I hadnt Im not sure what I would have done. Told him? Told the stewardesses??

It really was a strong pungent smell - not just a bit. Surely he knows??

He was a sweaty dude as well. Shudder to think of it now.

    :p
