  1. Interview on tv news just now.

Yonsama is doing ads for a model of Sony handicam. 50 yrs old woman in shop buying said handicam because yonsama is doing the ad. I think she even said she didn't need a handicam and wasn't even planning to buy one. eek.gif

Same woman chewing the gum that yonsama is doing the ad for.

    Sad.

    eek.gif eek.gif

  2. It doesn't surprise me.

"Whats your impression of Japan" is one of those questions that gets asked a lot. If they like the answer, they listen. If they don't like the answer, it is dismissed.

Ranks up there with "Can you use chopsticks", and the favorite "Japanese is very difficult, isn't it." question (the one that is obviously not a question).

  3. The people attending these things look and act like they are possessed.

Chanting "4 more years", "flip flop flip flop", etc etc with that LOOK in their eyes. The singing of cheese choruses. The bullshit that is spoken, ever so seriously.

And you know who they are chanting for? That in itself is scary.

These mass crazed gatherings like this scares me, it scares me how people can be like that.

Not sure if what I am writing makes much sense. Perhaps someone more articulate could say it better for me ;\)

  4. I just got this email. I wonder what it means.

  5. Bad example there maybe with the phish hippie dudes.

The point is, Oasis and Robbie Williams are popular artists.

The Jpop comment, hmm is that relevant? From what I can gather Live Aid is more about getting as much publicity as possible and so money as possible - so big names bring the interest. It's not about fashion or trendiness of a Glastonbury-like lineup now is it?

  6. Of course I know that. How naive of you to even think that. Go figure indeed. wakaranai.gif

Many pop stars and celebrities border on the numbskull. Bono is not one of them. The guy is not stupid, even if you disagree with his politics whatever.

Perhaps instead of large popular acts like Oasis and Robbie Williams, Live Aid II could have acts such as Phish, String Cheese Incidents and other bollocks that 0.000005% of the world have heard of. Sounds great.

  7. OK here we go. As part of my job I had to visit about 6 different places today - all offering my endless coffee, tea and snacks. I wasn't prepared for this and I'd already had a few cups before I set out. I found it very difficult to refuse without sounding impolite. My Japanese isn't good enough to be able to do that well.

One thing I really hate is being almost forced to eat or drink - yeah yeah I know I'm not being forced and all that, but its quite difficult especially if these are important meetings and I am trying my best to be polite.

So - -------- can someone help me with the best Japanese I can use to politely refuse drinks. Or, is it best just to take a few sips and leave some over?

    Thanks!
