  1. They are a danger back home too.

Back in blighty, this old codger nearly killed me when he was driving along the main road with his left indicator on. I was on a side road wanting to cross the main road, and figured he was going to turn into my road. so i went out and crossed the road, only for him to just completely not turn left and carry straight on! Somehow that screwed another car too and we both went mental at the old guy who just carried on driving up the road with his indicator flashing away.

Surely when we get older we should have to repeat the driving test more often? Its just common sense that we dont want senile people using dangerous high speed vehicles.

  2. yeah fattwins, I noticed that too. my girlfreind, whose japanese, always seems to be cold, and always sleeps under the blankets when I am too hot and sleep on top of them. i noticed this kind in other japanese girls too, how they seem to get colder quicker.

Ah! clap.gif i know, maybe because they are so thin, and I am medium build, so I got that layer of fat to keep me warm??? wakaranai.gif

  3. well latin is meant to be the building blocks of other european languages, so supposedly if ou leanr latin first, you can learna bunch of other european languages much faster and thoroughly. Thats what I was told when I studied it back when I was 13 anyway.

    Caecillius est in horto laborat.

  4. Yeah in the UK it is a choice of Spanish, German or French.

But no-one bothers to study it 'cos they all speak english anyway' (actually most europeans i have spoken to hate using english and rightfully resent us brits being so damn lazy).

I love studying Japanese. Its useful to me in everyday life, but I just enjoy it for the intellectual challenge. Also, I find I am learning a lot about my own language, and language in general.

But most interestingly, I find I am learning a lot about the relationship between language and culture, and how your language can actually affect the way you look at the world to some extent.

I heard that Japanese is about 6 times harder to learn for English speakers than a roman based language like french or spanish. I think it was the army (or something like that) who made this fact up, as they would devote 10 weeks to teaching french etc to their cadets, but 60 weeks for teaching Japanese.

  5. yeah i got one of those traps with the hooks. i was using it alone without the hook. cos there is a funnel-spiky-hole on the roof of the cage where they can climb in and not get out again. I thought theyd climb in through there but the havent.

So, I just put some chocolate on the hook thing, but I am not sure how reliable it is. Can you remember the correct way to do it? It just seems like if they eat the choco the door will remain permentantly open rather than it slamming shut.

  6. I bought a metal trap today (not the classic one, the cage type where they enter a spiky funnel from the top and then fall into the cage and cannot get back up the spiky funnel). I have baited it with some bits of a cheese slice.

I went out for 4 hours tonight but no mice/rats came in that time. They/it seem to come and go randomly. I heard they like tenpura from 2 seperate people (nihon no nezumi desu kara, tenpura suki).

I am looking forward to the morning. The methods of execution are endless - kerosene is attracting me at the moment.

  7. The poster above who wrote 'i dont like computers, but i like what you can do with them' hit the nail on the head. They are just a means to an end.

Apparently with the release of that new internet protocol (IPv6?) we are gonna see another (less drastic) computer revolution.

All the items in our houses will be linked and have little microcomputers in them, and be accessible remotely (via the internet).

So, I guess you can have your kettle, toaster, cooker, lights, VCR, PC, HIFI etc etc all linked up together and controllable via a remote control, or the internet if you are away from home.

    Sounds cool - cant wait!

In the article I read, PCs were being compared to electric motors in houses 100 years ago. Houses were designed around thses motors, and people put their otehr applicances close ot the motor so they could do various task with it (wringing out clothes, hmm and whatever else they used motors for back in those days). The PC today is like this. Many people have their PC connected to their TV, speakers etc and it acts as this super-mulit-purpose beast that is a hifi, dvd player, as well as a multitude of other computer related things. but in future, computers will be so cheap and small that we will be able to put one in eveyr applicance, and not have to keep it all together. That was the gist anyway.

  8. I am not joking. There really is a rat/mouse (nezumi) in my kitchen. eek.gif

I even had it trapped but was too scared to kill it, and in the 3 hours i spent dallying about what to do (went and bought some poison) it escaped.

    What am I gonna do?

This is what I have done so far:

mad.gif laid down 2 kinds of rat poison in the kitchen

(result: the rat has eaten a little of this poison several times over the past 4 days, but it doesnt seem to work)

mad.gif closed the door so it cant get out of there (result: I think it can get in/out via the floor or some hidden hole. It even managed to get into my cupboards through some act of magic)

mad.gif put down some rat glue traps (result: nothing! these are crap!)

I cant kill it with my hands cos I never see it anymore. It just scrambles around when I am out/asleep and leaves a bit of a mess. I am gong to buy a proper metal rat trap tonight and see if that does anything.

I cannot eat in my house anymore, I feel really sick to be in my house, knowing that this rat might have pissed where I am putting my hands etc. Its a 50 year old house.

    Please help " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" />

  9. ocean11 you need to listen to their first two albums. in those albums (pablo honey and the bends) they proved that they can match any indie (pablo honey) or rock (the bends) group. They showed they can play their instruments.

From there, they moved on and made their own style with ok computer and kid A, and have been pushing thier own boundaries since then. In my opinion, OK Computer would not have got such massive international acclaim/recognition if it werent for the fact that they showed they knew the rules before they broke them (they proved they could play their instruments) with those 1st two albums.

To be honest, I find their new albums hard to get into at first, but once I get my head round it I realise how amazing it is.

I heard the leaked version of the new one, and again it is hard to listen to, but no doubt after a few more listens (of the retail version) I will be singing their praises again.

  10. No no no.

If you say `i will be there at 6pm` then you have to go there at 6pm. It is wrong not to. It is very rude and inconsiderate not to.

There was this time when a guy called me and asked me to do him a favour. I was busy, but said `ok`. He told me he`d be outside appleland in ten mins. I rushed there to meet him, but had to wait an hour before he showed up. That is incredibly rude, and I thought a lot less of him from then on.

    Moral of the story:

Keep your promises and dont assume other people will be cool about you keeping them waiting. They may very well get pissed off at you.

It is not difficult to be on time. Its just a a matter of respect for other people - thinking aobut them rather than just putting your own damn self first all the time. If something important comes up, then fair enough give your mate a call and say I am gonna be late. But otherwise have some consideration.
