Not into "posh" myself, but try the newer places that were built just before the bubble burst when they ploughed absurb amounts of money into new resorts.
ARAI springs to mind near Myoko.
Avoid the Prince hotels.

Not sad generally. If you spend 10 hours a day with it, maybe, same as everything.
I find it a good stress-reliever.
Recommended.
Get a PS2 for a big choice of software. Some great games for the Box, but it's got a seriously serious "not selling" problem here in Japan, so no telling how long support will continue for it.

We're out of season now of course, but it's interesting that Sun Alpina is a good place for nighta.
I either love or hate nighta - after a dump it can be awesome. After a warm summer day it can be worse than a skate rink.

I thought that somewhere in Niigata got the most - ARAI or Okutadami or somewhere. Completely wrong maybe. Gassan sounds like a reasonable choice.
