  1. Ive got to say it really got up my nose when the americans brought out "the flag". 20,000 or so indians died in an earthquake over there last year but they dont get a special mention. Im sure there would be plenty of examples of tradgedy and grief from many of the countries taking part.

After that unbelievable insult to the Olympic movement I turn on the T.V yesterday and see the American Bobsleigh team in a sled with a giant "U.S. ARMY" sign on it. Please tell me they're not planning to race that thing in the Olynpic contest.

The U.S has totally lost the plot when it comes to the Olympic spirit!

  2. Both the snowboarding halfpipe events were great.

The womens comp was unbelievable, fantastic to see how far girls are pushing it these days. I loved it when the Japanese girl came back and stomped the big flip in the second run after getting a fat lip trying it the first time.

As for the sweep in the mens, Whats the big deal?

Austrians do it in skiing all the time and what about

the Aussie swimmers. They often clean up.

Any sport with judges is going to be open to debate

but all those guys in the top 6 rocked big time.

  3. Where do you draw the line between "real backcountry" and

    a little "rope ducking"?

You have to be prepared for real backcountry but anyone can duck the rope right?

I mean they only put up ropes to stop you from having fun . Just ask any expert rope ducker.

Rope ducker: What happens if they see me?

    vs

real backcountry rider: What if they dont see me, how will I react to unexpected injury or event.

I bet there are a lot more problems with rope ducking.

If you really dont expect the ski patrol to come get you when you stuff up then act like it.

If people had more respect for their ass than their pass the ski patrol would probably be a little more relaxed.

  4. Cheers Ben.

    Thanks for the info.

Im sure we will hear more on this. I hope people pay attention to the situation and realise that we all need to prove that we can ride responsibly or we will lose out big time in the long run. Riding like an idiot and then claiming you cant speak Japanese is not a good way to earn respect!

  5. I was up at Niseko last week and noticed a poster about

backcountry rules. It was all in japanese but I noticed it mentioned beacons.

    Anyone know about this?

Will a beacon rule be enforced for the summit run ect.?

I personally think its a great idea. The no friends on a

powder day, duck the rope and charge the fresh attitude that a lot of clowns seem to live by can be dangerous.

Just because an area is close to a resort doesnt mean its safe. Just look a the gully between hirafu and Higashiyama.

Every year there seems to be stories about some captain baka who went for a walk with no gear no map and no brain and got into trouble.

Riding backcountry powder is cool but do yourself and your friends a favour and ride safe.

  6. Nothing to do with snow but interesting stuff.

What exactly is an "expletive" ?

The answer to this question differs depending on who you

are and what culture or subculture you identify with.

One persons expletive may be a normal and accepted part of another persons communicative style.

Censorship involves a party holding some kind of power (in this case the site adminisrator) making moral judgements

about the acceptibility or otherwise of various forms of expression.

I personally believe that this is quite wrong. If you are offended by certain words it is better to simply accept that your communicative style is different, ignore it and move on.

I tend to agree with Mr Bob that there is probably some commercial concerns involved and that is understandable.

The adminstrators claimed that the "majority of readers don't want expletives" Do you have data to back that claim?

I personally thought "clown" was quite amusing so

I'll start the poll off by saying I dont really care

what people write, if I dont like it I'll say so myself

    or ignore it.

  7. A little story about companies.

The other day I was applying a bit of B.O. buster to the underarms when the whole ****in stick fell out of hte container and went all over the place.

    Why?

Simple, you know the little plastic windy screwy thing that goes up the middle. Some genius decided to get rid of it. I wonder why they did that, to save money!!!

Hows that for getting screwed by screw scrooges

Id rather fashion my own board out of a log than pay a company but I doubt I could make it work properly.
