  1. Im looking at getting hardboots this year for my splitboard. Climbing in softboots really sucks in ski mode. Im wondering if Alpine Touring boots will fit a snowboard hardboot binding. If so I could get in a bit of carving after work on the same boots as the splitboard. Carving boards look like a heap of fun up here in Sapporo at night when everything sets up icy hard and there are not many people out.

Anyone know if ski boots fit into snowboard bindings? Ski bootts seem to have forward lean , Is this a problem for boarding?

  2. I used to use my playstation for internet and email but a couple of weeks ago I got a second hand pc. Im pretty sure the windows program is dodgy but it works fine and upgraded itself off the internet. Should I be worried and stop it from contacting gatesville or what?

Also I thought a crack was the part of your body that smells nasty after a day on the board but I keep hearing about cracks on kazaa. Whats it all about?

  3. After flipping the U.N. security council the finger a few months ago the talk in the U.S at the moment is all about Getting more international involvement in Iraq.

From what I can figure out the international community is supposed to realise what a great idea it was to invade Iraq, admit they should have done the democratic thing and voted for the U.S idea in the first place and pitch in to clean up.

I tried it with my flatmates last weekend. They begged me not to hold a massive all night party in the house but I did it anyway. I thought that after seeing what a great party it was they would love to help unblock the toilet gather up the broken glass and wipe off the walls. The flatmates selfishly refused to pitch in and they blame me for the still unfinished clean up. Some people just dont appreciate great ideas. I know how Mr Bush must feel.

  4. I was just watching CNN and Ive got to say how touched I was at this story of Strength and Courage on the part of the American public. There were several interviews with people whose lives had been shattered by this terrible event. One girl was bravely fighting on despite not having had a hot shower for well over 12 hours.

The determined spirit of these people should serve as an example for other countries to follow. Instead of whineing about lack of food medicine and basic human rights these people should look at the brave struggle of the New York citizens under extreme adversity.

    God Bless America.

  5. I think we will see a lot more freaky weather in years to come. The only real question is how freaky will it have to get before those of us in rich countries (thats all the ones where people can afford to pay money to slide on snow) will wake up to the fact that if you want to screw nature, nature will screw you with interest. As people who enjoy the mountains we have a special responsibility to pass on whats really happening becase you dont really notice much is wrong from the air condidtioned comfort of your mega car.

  6. I love the sound of my snowboard!

It sounds different all the time.

Im really thinking about the sound it makes in the pipe at the moment , especially a nice firm pipe

oh yes.... that little scratchy noise it makes just before you leave the lip then the airy silent bit before that full base slap back into the grindy edge resonance into the next wall ooooohhhhhh yeah baby yeah!!!

  7. Im all for riding powder and trees. I do it all the time. I also love resorts with good off piste policies.

Niseko has been held up as an example here before but the system only works if people follow the guidelines. Certain areas are totally off limits, other places should be entered by gates and occaisionaly the patrol may stop you and politely inquire about where you are going and if you are properly equipped. Everybody is kept happy generally. My point is that if you can't work as a member of a community to get a system going youll loose out in the end.

Ocean Ive noticed that you post on the Japanese forum too from time to time. I dont know how good your Japanese is but instead of wasting time ranting about the policies of resorts you ride at why dont you get involved with The Jsba or form a group of interested persons and put your case forward in a respectable way.

You can also just not ride at those places that dont cater to your style. I never ride at Rusutsu because they are a big glamorous amusement park type place and they dont want serious off piste riders. You dont try to buy meat at a bakery. Theres a lot of snow in Japan go have a look around and find some you can ride without hassles.

Maybe you should move to Hokkaido! Just leave the attitude down there though please.

I hope thats enough of a "point" for you but the fact is Im not interested in debating the merits of riding under this or that chair at a certain resort and if it should or shouldnt be allowed to ride slope x at resort y.. I dont need to do that because I can ride all the fresh powder I can take. The way to achieve that is not by scrapping with patrol over some under chair chasey chasey game or moaning on the net about the Japanese society.

Ive seen a few skateboard Vids where half the Fun seemed to be ******* off security guards, I see a bit of the same happening here.

    I say again

    Grow up

  8. Some of you people have truly lost the plot.

Do you really think the patrol is getting on here to get intelligence information about where you idiots are ducking ropes. Now Ive heard it all.

I do agree with you Fattwins about not posting your spots on the net for all to see ....but not to escape patrol. I dont know why on earth anyone would cough up thier prime spots so you can show up one day and see the place tracked out.

Maybe some people just want more of a pack around to play cops and robbers with the patrol.

Too lazy to go backcountry properly and too cool to ride on the marked trails the only place left to ride is in closed areas within a resort. In Some states of America you can be fined under law for doing this, Thats not the case in Japan because most people are resonable and show a little respect for the rules so they dont need a law.

Im sure that the majority of readers are either happy to ride on course and enjoy the safety provided by resorts or are resonsible backcountry riders who are properly equiped. (I personally make my first stop the patrol office if Im going to be entering and leaving the backcountry via a resort and Ive never had a problem.)

The hoodlums who are too imature to choose a legitimate approach damage the situation for everybody both in resort and backcountry.

    Grow up.

  9. As you observed yoursef Danz a crack like this indicates the snow is moving. If it moves slowly its not necessarily a problem but what if it lets go and all slides suddenly? Big trouble. Temperature will probobly be the major factor to watch, sudden warming in these areas should be a warning signal (not the only consideration though!) for anyone riding near slopes showing this kind of snow creeping.
