Yeah he did force most of the clubs in Osaka to shut down or close early. Kyoto liked his idea and has done the same. Havent had a decent club for about 6 months. I heard it was in an attempt to stop crime in the streets in the early hours of the morning. Now if you want to go clubbing you should start around 6pm. Fun times!

Hiking/mountaineering
Did my first cycle/hike last Sunday in the mountains north of kyoto.

Its basically the nighta course but in the morning. There are a few resorts in the same area that provide the same service. I've done it once this season but by about 2:30pm I was wrecked and ready to go.

It takes about 3-4hrs to drive there from Kyoto. The overnight bus from Kyoto to Dynaland is also a good shout for weekend one day trips. It arrives at Dynaland at about 4:30 and the lifts (some of them) start from 5.

Off to Biwako Valley tomorrow (Not by choice). Current forecast is for rain and rain.

Trip Report for March 13 2012 - Dynaland & Takasu Snow Park
I was originally worried about when I would get to use my Dynaland pass as the weather had been warming up and I had a lot of other trips planned for mid February through to early March. I had been watching the weather and when it looked like there would be some cooler weather and possible snow from 3/10 I started to plan a trip and look for other snow junkies that could take a week day off work. When I saw the 6 day forecast i thought Wednesday would be the best conditions as it was snowing from Sunday through to Tuesday but had organised a date for white day so decided to go on the Tuesday instead. It was fortunate I chose the date over snowboarding because Tuesday turned out to be near perfect conditions and Wednesday would have been crusty and tracked out.
My boarding buddy for the day was a beginner, this day being only his third time on the snow. The conditions and skijos were perfect for him. He could enjoy soft snow to fall on, wide groomed runs and very few people to run into. If we had gone on the weekend I'm sure it would have been a different story, we didn't have to wait more than one minute for a lift all day. The day was so enjoyable that by the end my mate decided that he will invest in some gear before next season.
The Parks
Dynaland is connected at the top to Takasu Snow Park and the lift pass coves both parks. We spent the morning in Dynaland, trying to track out any tree runs and stashes of fresh snow I could find. After lunch we headed over to Takasu Snow Park. This was the second time for me at both these parks but I am still relatively new to boarding and this was the first time I noticed all the off piste potential Takasu Snow Park has to offer. From the top there were plenty of options for different tree runs. The one that I was playing in went from the top down skier's left to a lift around the middle of the mountain crossing a groomed run twice. This was really convenient as my mate could practice his turns on the groomer and I could hit the tree runs.
By about 3:30 my legs were completely wrecked and clearly i need more training before next season. We decided to head back to Dynaland for a few last runs but the fresh snow (or what was left of it) had started to get crusty and the wind had made the groomed runs quite icy, so we made the decision to call it a day and head home.
Overall this was a great trip and one of my favourite days boarding this season. I will be heading back to Dynaland and Takasu Snow Park again next year. Especially after a big dump of snow. Also a big thanks go out to SnowJapan and Dynaland for the lift passes. If it had not been for them I probably wouldn't have gone back to these parks again these parks again this season.

Got some pics on tuesday but only phone ones. Will try to upload them tonight.

Tuesday seemed to be the day to be out. I took a day off and used my Dynaland lift pass. Enjoyed about 20-30cm of fresh snow and lots of fun tree runs. Thanks snowjapan for the lift pass.

Busy this weekend so no snow but planning to do a trip to dynaland on Tuesday. A little fresh snow and hopefully no crowds.

Knee'ed myself in the chin a few weeks back going off a drop at hakuba 47. Annoying thing is first time I landed it but second time when my mates were folowing me i wiped out.

Nagano is possible for a weekend trip as long as you dont mind the 10 hour bus ride. I did a trip last weekend to hakuba. Left Kyoto at 11:30pm friday night got back 10pm Sunday night.
In Gifu most the parks are not so big and get pretty crowded on the weekend. Ive never been to Biwako Valley but it is the closest resort to kyoto and parts of osaka so it gets really busy with day trippers on the weekend.

Amazon.co.jp is the way to go. Ordered mine off there along with spare battery. They have the hero2 available now for a pretty reasonable price.

In other news... The little buggers have finally got me. I can feel it building away in my body, the coughing has started and with it the headache Hopefully i can come down with it today and make a recovery in time for the weekend, but i know how this shit works... friday night itll hit, saturday ill be laid up, sunday ill feel like shit, and then ill be nice and groggy by monday morning but not sick enough to justify a day off... Im taking it as it comes, but i have a feeling its due just in time for the weekend. Ah, working with kids in an unventilated environment filled with kerosene fumes. Bleh!
I know this feeling well was booked for a weekend trip in gifu 2 weekends ago but on the friday morning I had a fever and couldnt get out of bed. My timing couldnt have been worse. Hope you have more luck than I did.

Heading to Hakuba 47 and goryu this weekend

Ive only just started waxing my board myself too. I find it much easier to apply the hot wax inside my house in a heated room. It makes it easier to melt the wax evenly across my board.

I rock an orange GoPro case on my helmet. Easy to spot and havent seen anyone else with an orange one yet.

McDonald's cheeseburger ¥120
Can of Coke varies but i would say around ¥100-130. Bottles of coke 500mls are around ¥150.

If you have the time Miyajima is well worth visiting. A lot of people that visit me do the hiroshima and miyajima trip. Its possible to do in one day but you will be quite rushed so i would recommend an overnight stay somewhere in hiroshima or miyajima.
As for Osaka walking around the streets is great. Also usj and the aquariam are good if thats your thing. Watching the people say oishiso when they see the fish never gets old. Osaka castle is great too but I dont like the inside and think its better from the outside, inside is too modern but thats just my opinion.

Did winter come last night? Had a light dusting on the hills/mountains around Kyoto this morning.

Just got The Art of Flight. Its a great film. Loving the tunes at the start when they are in Alaska. Of course the boarding is also epic.

Grow a pathetic mo and be prepared for constant ridicule. I just experienced a month of this. Fun times

Even uniqlo jeans are becoming more expensive. Where I am they are 3000-4000yen. Of course you can sometimes get them for 2000yen if they are on sale but often they are out of season stock

Snowboarded since Feb last season. Before that I only carved concrete on my skateboard.

So far i will definitely be in Niseko Jan 3-7 and Nagareha Jan 21-22.
Also hoping to get to Nozawa and Hakuba
