Introduction to the region

Toyama Prefecture is located in the Chubu region on the main island of Honshu. Toyama is also part of the Hokuriku subregion, the northern coastal section of Chubu, which also includes Fukui Prefecture and Ishikawa Prefecture (and sometimes Niigata Prefecture).

Toyama Prefecture is bordered by Niigata Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture to the east, Gifu Prefecture to the south and Ishikawa Prefecture to the west.

The ski areas in the prefecture are located across the mountain ranges.
