Taira is a ski area located in Nanto City in the southwestern region of Toyama Prefecture.

This ski area was initially known as Nashitani in what used to be Taira Village. It became known as Taira with the installation of ski lifts in 1985.


It now has three pair lifts (556m, 200m, 490m) and is often host to local and sometimes national school ski events.


Taira is one of three ski areas in Nanto City. The other two are IOX-AROSA and Takanbo. There used to be several other ski areas in Nanto City that have now closed.

Normal season dates

Taira usually plans to be open from mid-December until early April. See below for the actual opening and closing dates in recent seasons.


Normal opening times

Taira is normally open from 8:30am until 4:00pm in the daytime.


Night skiing

There is no night skiing.


Mogul run

There is a mogul course by the Number 1 lift.


Families & children

The Kids Park is located by the base of the Number 1 pair lift. There is a 500 yen entry charge. It is usually open only on weekends and holidays.


Lessons

Ski and snowboard lessons are available at Taira.


Rental

Ski and snowboard equipment & wear rental is available.

A morning ticket is valid from 8:30am until 12:30pm.

Introduction to the region

Toyama Prefecture is located in the Chubu region on the main island of Honshu. Toyama is also part of the Hokuriku subregion, the northern coastal section of Chubu, which also includes Fukui Prefecture and Ishikawa Prefecture (and sometimes Niigata Prefecture).


Toyama Prefecture is bordered by Niigata Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture to the east, Gifu Prefecture to the south and Ishikawa Prefecture to the west.


The ski areas in the prefecture are located across the mountain ranges.


Taira is one of 3 ski areas currently operating within Nanto City.
