Miinohara is a small ski area located in Okuizumo Town in the eastern region of Shimane Prefecture.
It is very close to the border with Hiroshima Prefecture and Tottori Prefecture.
There used to be a few ski lifts and two main areas to the once-larger Miinohara Ski Area, one right by the train station and another just a bit further along the main road. Both the road and train line go through the two areas.
Interesting points: the train station is the highest in the JR West region at an elevation of 727m, and according to Wikipedia, in 2013, only three people used the station on average in a day!
The last ski lift closed in 2021, leaving only one simple rope tow lift behind Drive-in Miino.
