Togari Onsen is a ski area on the south-eastern slopes of Hotokegamine in Iiyama City in the north-eastern region of Nagano Prefecture.

Open since 1956, Togari Onsen traditionally had two bases, Pegasus and Orion, connected by lower runs and in the top area known as Tondaira. In 2021 the base Orion lift was closed, and that area was re-named Snow Vacance Village (offering various snow-related activities). The ski area also introduced some ungroomed runs and tree run courses, along with a snow bike (bicycle) park area.

There are three quad lifts (1037m, 1221m and 747m) and one pair lift currently operating at the ski area.

Togari is touting a big 'renewal' for the 2025-2026 season. The sections of the ski area have been re-named to Earth Dragon Field, Sky Dragon Field and a 'members only' White Dragon Field; along with a new freestyle Dragon Park close to the main base.

There's a new logo and a new tagline too: 'No Cash, Just Snow'. It looks like all related facilities at the ski area have become cashless.

Introduction to the region

Nagano Prefecture is located in the Chubu region of the main island of Honshu. It is one of only eight landlocked prefectures in Japan, bordered by Niigata, Gunma, Saitama, Yamanashi, Shizuoka, Aichi, Gifu, and Toyama.

Nagano Prefecture is sometimes referred to as 'the roof of Japan' because of the steep, rugged terrain of the many 2,000-3,000m mountains that comprise the Japan Alps. The Northern Alps are located along the northwestern region bordering Gifu and Toyama. The Central Alps are in the southwestern region, and the Southern Alps are along the southeastern border.

After Hokkaido, Nagano Prefecture is home to the second-largest number of ski areas in Japan. It has multiple world-class winter sports resorts within its boundaries, and some were venues for the main events of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. There are ski areas throughout the mountains of Nagano Prefecture, but the majority are in the northern and central regions.

Togari Onsen is one of 2 ski areas currently operating in Iiyama City. The other is Madarao Mountain Resort.
