Many people use direct bus services from Sapporo and New Chitose Airport to the Niseko region. By train, Kutchan Station on the Hakodate Honsen line is the primary and most convenient train station used by people travelling to the region for skiing.
Trains
Train services operate between Sapporo Station and Kutchan Station. Sometimes waiting for connections at Otaru Station can increase the time needed.
The journey from Sapporo Station to Kutchan Station usually takes about 2 hours.
The journey from New Chitose Airport Station to Sapporo Station usually takes about 40 minutes.
Buses
During the winter season, several private bus companies offer direct services to Niseko from Sapporo City and New Chitose Airport. These regular and convenient services are probably the most popular way to get to Niseko.
Buses are also scheduled between Rusutsu and Niseko each day during the winter season.
Other people opt to rent vehicles for their trips.
The Niseko United Shuttle Bus operates around the ski area of Niseko and Kutchan from Saturday 29th November 2025 through 5th April 2026. There are 15 services every day between 13th December 2025 and 22nd March 2026. (11 services outside those dates).

General information on getting to the Niseko region by road
From Sapporo City to central Kutchan
Take Route 230 south via the Nakayama Pass and Kimobetsu Town. On the far side of Kimobetsu, turn right onto Route 276. This road continues into Kutchan town. In normal conditions, it takes up to two and a half hours by car.
Alternatively, using a more northerly route, take the Sasson Expressway or Route 5 west towards Otaru City. Then, either use Route 393 or continue beyond Otari City on Route 5. Both roads continue on to Kutchan.
All three routes are 90-100km.
From New Chitose Airport to central Kutchan
From the main exit of New Chitose Airport, turn left onto Route 36 and head west on Prefecture Road 16. Go past Lake Shikotsu on Route 453, then join Route 276 towards Kimobetsu Town and eventually into Kutchan. This route is about 105km. In normal conditions, it takes up to two and a half hours by car.
There is parking for about 1,650 vehicles close to the base of Niseko Village. Parking is free every day of the season.
