Akagisan Dai 1 (Dai-ichi) is a ski area located in Maebashi City in the central eastern region of Gunma Prefecture.
This ski area calls itself 'the smallest ski area in Japan'. While it is indeed small, a few other small ski areas in Japan have similar claims!
Akaisan Dai 1 actually used to be a much larger ski area and had a ropeway cable car, two ski lifts and some fairly long ski runs. The story about Akagisan Dai 1, as well as the other two old ski areas near the lake, can be found on SnowJapanHistory.com.
In recent years there was a rope tow lift on the remaining slope, but that is also no longer used. So now there is just a 60m snow escalator moving walkway open on weekends and holidays.
Many people use the Akagisan Dai-1 for playing-in-the-snow activities, as well as for beginner-level skiing and snowboarding.

Introduction to the region
Gunma Prefecture is located in the northwestern part of the Kanto region on the main island of Honshu. It is one of eight landlocked prefectures in Japan. Gunma is surrounded by Niigata Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture to the north, Nagano Prefecture to the west, Tochigi Prefecture to the east, and Saitama Prefecture to the south.
The ski areas of Gunma are largely found in the northern region (Minakami Town, Kawaba Village and Katashina Village) and the western region (Kusatsu Town and Tsumagoi Village).
Akagisan Dai 1 is the only ski area currently operating in Maebashi City.
