2026-2027 season information

Early December 2026 until late March 2027

Information status
Not yet updated

Winghills Shirotori Resort is a ski area located in the northern region of Gujo City in central Gifu Prefecture, close to the border with Fukui Prefecture.

Winghills (as it is often known) has traditionally been one of the first ski areas in the region to open in early November, even if it opens initially with only artificial snow. However, the 2024-2025 season plans to start from early December.

It has a 2,300m 6-person gondola, two quad lifts and one pair lift. A 'self-responsibility side-country' area is available near the top, along with an official ski run where the snow is left ungroomed.

This area was known as Shirotori Town until 2004, when it merged with six neighbouring towns and villages to establish Gujo City. Note the difference in the pronunciation (spelling) of the town name in the name of this ski area and that of neighbouring Snow Wave Park Shiratori Kogen, even though the same kanji are used.

Artificial snow mats used to offer summer skiing, but that was discontinued in 2025.

Introduction to the region

Gifu Prefecture is located in central Japan and is one of only eight landlocked prefectures in the country. It is surrounded by seven other prefectures: Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Fukui, Ishikawa, Toyama and Nagano.

All the ski areas in Gifu Prefecture are in the northern mountainous regions of the Prefecture, in Gujo City, Takayama City and Hida City.

Six ski areas in Gujo City recently joined together for promotional purposes under the Takasu Mountains brand. (Takasu is the name of a neighbourhood in Gujo City. In 2004, Takasu Village merged with several other towns and villages to form the current city). That area is particularly popular with people visiting from Nagoya and Osaka. Train links are not particularly convenient, so most people travel by car or bus.

Winghills Shirotori Resort is one of 9 ski areas currently operating in Gujo City.
