Snow Wave Park Shiratori Kogen is a ski area located in the northern region of Gujo City in central Gifu Prefecture, close to the border with Fukui Prefecture.
The relatively open ski run areas at Snow Wave Park Shiratori Kogen are on the northern slopes of 1385m Mt Bishamondake. They face the nearby Winghills Shirotori Resort ski area to the north.
Snow Wave Park Shiratori Kogen has traditionally opened in late November, thanks to artificial snow-making machines, but for the 2023-2024 season the planned opening date was announced as 9th December 2023. However, in mid-November that was suddenly changed to 25th November 2023... and then changed back to 2nd December 2023. Not sure what was going on there! A 7th December 2024 opening is planned for 2024-2025.
Once the season gets underway, there is a 'backcountry and tree run course' from top to bottom and also some 'powder areas'. The ski area also claims it has Japan's 'longest sled course'. In recent years a new 'snow trekking course' has opened.
The ski runs of Snow Wave Park Shiratori Kogen become a golf course in the summer months.

Introduction to the region
Gifu Prefecture is located in central Japan and is one of only eight landlocked prefectures in the country. It is surrounded by seven other prefectures: Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Fukui, Ishikawa, Toyama and Nagano.
All the ski areas in Gifu Prefecture are in the northern mountainous regions of the Prefecture, in Gujo City, Takayama City and Hida City.
Six ski areas in Gujo City recently joined together for promotional purposes under the Takasu Mountains brand. (Takasu is the name of a neighbourhood in Gujo City. In 2004, Takasu Village merged with several other towns and villages to form the current city). That area is particularly popular with people visiting from Nagoya and Osaka. Train links are not particularly convenient, so most people travel by car or bus.
Snow Wave Park Shiratori Kogen is one of 9 ski areas currently operating in Gujo City.
