Information status
Not yet updated

Sannokura is a ski area located in Kitakata City in the north western region of Fukushima Prefecture.

This ski area is about 20 minutes drive from the city centre, close to the border with Yamagata Prefecture.

Sannokura has two pair lifts, and the primarily gentle south-facing slopes overlook the Aizu plains.

For the 2026-2027 season, only the upper Number 2 lift is planned to operate. The lower Number 1 lift will not operate as Kitakata City considers the future operation of the ski area and ways to reduce maintenance costs.

It humorously claims that it is one of Japan's quietest (least busy) ski areas.

Introduction to the region

Fukushima Prefecture is the southernmost prefecture of the Tohoku region of northern Japan. Fukushima Prefecture borders Miyagi Prefecture and Yamagata Prefecture to the north, Niigata Prefecture to the west, Gunma Prefecture to the southwest, and Tochigi Prefecture and Ibaraki Prefecture to the south.

The majority of the ski areas in Fukushima Prefecture are in the northern region around Mt. Bandai and north of Lake Inawashiro (the fourth-largest lake in Japan), as well as in the western region of the prefecture.

Sannokura is the only ski area currently operating in Kitakata City.
