Numajiri is a ski area located on the western slopes of Mt Adatara in Inawashiro Town in the northern region of Fukushima Prefecture.
This ski area has a long history. It is one of Japan's oldest currently operating ski areas. Skiing here dates back to 1915, and it was also one of the first to open for night skiing in 1927.
In recent years there has been a gradual scaling down of operations. In 2025, one quad lift (900m) and one pair lift (230m) operate at Numajiri. Artificial snowmaking machines are on hand to assist nature if required.
The ski area is normally closed on Mondays.
The mascot characters for this ski area are very friendly-looking squirrels who can often be found on the slopes and entertaining children. Their names are Numajirisu and Nuuji. They seem to be a couple.

Introduction to the region
Fukushima Prefecture is the southernmost prefecture of the Tohoku region of northern Japan. Fukushima Prefecture borders Miyagi Prefecture and Yamagata Prefecture to the north, Niigata Prefecture to the west, Gunma Prefecture to the southwest, and Tochigi Prefecture and Ibaraki Prefecture to the south.
The majority of the ski areas in Fukushima Prefecture are in the northern region around Mt. Bandai and north of Lake Inawashiro (the fourth-largest lake in Japan), as well as in the western region of the prefecture.
Numajiri is one 3 ski areas currently operating in Inawashiro Town. (There are several other ski areas in the town that are currently closed).
