  • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 21st February 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 1193cm Posted on Saturday 21st February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Bluebird! It's an absolutely beautiful morning in Yuzawa with clear blue skies and the sun shining down doing it's thing. It's going to be warming up today and tomorrow further still. We can really expect spring-like conditions this weekend. Snow falling during the day yesterday though it didn't amount to much in terms of cm, just logged a few that I had to move off the top of my unmoved car yesterday evening. Rain is still looking on the forecast for tomorrow though on some forecasts it seems to have been pushed back to later in the day, so fingers crossed we might be lucky there. In the meantime though a fantastic weather day to be outside and enjoying the snow. Hope you can get to enjoy it. --- Official snow depths (as of Friday 20th): GALA Yuzawa: 470cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 390cm Iwappara: 270cm Joetsu Kokusai: 300cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 405cm Maiko Snow Resort: 400cm (upper) 270cm (lower) Naeba: 290cm NASPA Ski Garden: 345cm Yuzawa Kogen: 360cm (Kogen) 320cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 260cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Saturday 21st February 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1193cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 54 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 214cm reported on 16 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday turned out to be a mostly grey and cloudy day in the region, with temperatures remaining mild and snow conditions remaining spring. It's a similar kind of start to the day today, perhaps slightly colder and brighter. But mostly clouds up there and that is what is forecast for the day. Looking like it might rain again (down in town and bases anyway) late tomorrow but be snowing as we turn into Friday with colder conditions as well. • Yuzawa Now: Tuesday 3rd March 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 1219cm Posted on Tuesday 3rd March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Morning from a lovely bright and sunny Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma. Almost clear blue skies early on this morning, just a bit of very thin cloud here and there giving it a lighter blue look. It actually seems to have got a bit hazier looking in the 30 minutes since I started putting this report together. Cloud is actually expected to move in by late morning or early afternoon, but no snow (or rain) forecast. The 2cm I am putting in the report is from yesterday afternoon... no new snow overnight, just a frosting on the car. Kagura are also reporting 5cm of snow since yesterday. It is a chilly start to the day but forecast to warm up to maybe around +7C this afternoon. There doesn't feel like much of a wind down here in town but GALA Yuzawa are saying that they will be closed today due to strong winds forecasts up there. No word of closure from Kagura as I write this... Not really much in terms of snowfall on the forecast at the moment, Thursday looking like the best chance though as the forecast stands right now we probably can't expect anything major. --- It's the 63rd Yuzawa Onsen Yuki Matsuri (Snow Festival) this coming Saturday with the main event from 5pm until 9pm. Lots of festival like events going on ending with fireworks at 8:50pm. Should be fun. There's no shortage of snow this season of course, but would be good we get some fresh snow that the snow sculpting folk can get to work with. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 450cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 320cm Iwappara: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai: 280cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 360cm Maiko Snow Resort: 380cm (upper) 240cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 301cm Yuzawa Kogen: 300cm (Kogen) 250cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 235cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Tuesday 3rd March 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1219cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 57 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days March 2015 snowfall 12cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Monday 2nd March 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 1217cm Posted on Monday 2nd March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday the wind was really quite strong at times and I wouldn't be surprised if there was more lift stoppages around the region than just those reported early morning. By late afternoon rain has started falling and it was pretty heavy at times in the evening. Last time I looked last night it was sleet falling and a thin white layer on the ground. I was in Yuzawa just a short while ago but back in Minamiuonuma now where there's just 2cm of snow on the top of the cars that have been parked overnight. There has been more snowfall in Yuzawa, about 10cm in places, and both Kagura and Maiko Snow Resort this morning are reporting 20cm of fresh snow. The snow is pretty wet and heavy here so hopefully lighter as you get up higher on the mountains. Definitely worth checking out though I'd say. There's a bit of blue sky over Minamiuonuma now but lots of cloud still hanging over Yuzawa. The forecast is just for cloudy skies for the day but if here is anything to go by it might end up being a fine day. Moderate winds again this morning, though northerly this time. Tashiro is going to be closed again today and Kagura only open from Mitsumata Ropeway to Kagura Number 1 Romance lift - they might open more if the winds die down. Other than that places seem to be going to open normally. GALA Yuzawa will be open. Tomorrow might get warmer again with clear and sunny skies possible. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 440cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 330cm Iwappara: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai: 280cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 370cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 240cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 301cm Yuzawa Kogen: 300cm (Kogen) 250cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 235cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Monday 2nd March 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1217cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 56 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days March 2015 snowfall 10cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 28th February 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 1207cm Posted on Saturday 28th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . 14cm on snow on the top of my car this morning. It's great to see some fresh piling up again. This morning here's what resorts that report are reporting: Kagura - 30cm Naeba - 15cm at base 20-30cm Maiko Snow Resort - 20-30cm So a fairly decent fresh layer for this Saturday morning which will have given the resorts a refresh. A bit more fresh depth would have been welcome (isn't that almost always the case!), but we'll have to make do with what we have been given. Yesterday we ended up having some very windy conditions in places and some lift disruption as well. It's calmer this morning with just a light northerly wind at the moment. Light snow is falling still but the forecast for the day is just cloud so there's more a chance of clearer conditions than further snow I think. It's fairly bright and even some signs of possible sunshine breaking through - looks like the sun is managing to do that over Naeba. Slightly warmer conditions expected tomorrow again with maybe some rain late on in the day that might change to snow again. It doesn't look like we will be treated to any kind of full on winter conditions over the next week or so, maybe just smaller deliveries here and there. Anyway, have a good Saturday! --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 440cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 340cm Iwappara: 260cm Joetsu Kokusai: 260cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 360cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 260cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 302cm Yuzawa Kogen: 320cm (Kogen) 260cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 235cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Saturday 28th February 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1207cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 55 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 1221cm Posted on Tuesday 10th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Let's get down to it... Rain overnight here at town level turning into sleet and snow early morning. On the ground there has been perhaps up to a few cm in places - just a dusting on my car - with Maiko Snow Resort reporting 5-10cm (presumably higher up) and Kagura also giving us the number of 20cm of fresh. So some snow up on the mountains and hopefully that will be increasing during the day today. Might well be borderline sleet/rain this morning (again here in town) as temperatures remain in low positive numbers, before settling into proper decent snowfall later on today and tomorrow - which looks like it should be the 'main event'. Looks like Tashiro is closed and Kagura limited to the Mitsumata area only due to already stronger winds up there. Winds expected to get stronger as the day goes on, so expect possible disruptions there. GALA Yuzawa open from early on. I'll leave it at that until tomorrow morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 1245cm Posted on Wednesday 11th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . A very good morning to you all from Yuzawa. The snow took a bit of time to get going properly yesterday but to get to the headlines... there's just under 25cm of snow on the top of my car this morning (it has been parked there since yesterday morning) and resorts are reporting around 30cm of fresh snowfall overnight. Kagura were during the day (yesterday) reporting 20cm, so I reckon that's 50cm up there since yesterday. Nice. It is a very welcome return to feeling like mid winter again! Snow continues to fall and is expected for the day and tomorrow too; the snow clouds possibly even hanging around the region into Friday. This may very well be the last considerably fall of the season, so the more the better. Not much wind this morning here at town level anyway but a chance of stronger later on. For now though, it would seem that the skijo will all be opening as planned. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . I was hoping for something decent to report this morning and I suppose I do, but it's bright blue skies rather than the snowfall we were hoping for. Yes, yesterday we did see snow falling but it really didn't amount to much of anything in terms of new cm and none of the resorts are reporting any fresh. For the moment, early spring continues to be winning out the battle of the seasons. Come on winter, we know you have more left. (Tuesday onwards next week looks quite promising). For now though it's looking like it will be a fine day here with temperatures rising to around +5 in town and sunny conditions likely. It's time for the Yuzawa Snow Festival tomorrow. If you are in Yuzawa and want to check it out, just head for the main onsen road side (station West Exit) and follow the people. • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 14th March 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 1272cm Posted on Saturday 14th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday ended up with some very changeable conditions. By 9am we had some lovely almost clear blue skies and the sun bright and all very shiny. Great start to the day and some nice conditions to be found. Cloud started forming mid morning though and by around 11am it was a much more overcast feel and soon snow was falling again. It didn't amount to much really, and by evening with temperatures rising a little it was actually raining. Then later on last time I looked outside it was snowing. On the car outside this morning there's 3cm of snow, and resorts reporting just a bit as well - Kagura reporting 5-10cm is the most. And we weren't quite expecting it but the sun is out again and while it's a bit kind of hazy the skies are clear over Yuzawa. So much for the forecast of cloud, bit of left over snow and rain. Though with the speed things changed yesterday, I suppose anything can happen and looking north over towards Uonuma there is a bank of cloud over there... The forecast for the coming week is one that reads of a confident Spring returning. If the forecasts are right there is going to be lots of sun, and a real warm up with temperatures easily getting into double digits here in town on some days. Unlikely to see snow even higher up with the freezing point rising way above out highest mountains. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 460cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 320cm Iwappara: 240cm Joetsu Kokusai: 280cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 365cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 230cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 309cm Yuzawa Kogen: 300cm (Kogen) 250cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 230cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Saturday 14th March 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1272cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 62 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days March 2015 snowfall 65cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 1269cm Posted on Friday 13th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . Started snowing quite heavily once I had posted the report yesterday and especially during the morning it continued, less so in the afternoon. Hearing reports from GALA Yuzawa yesterday of a deep 75+cm up there - thanks Mick Rich-san - so there's a lot of fresh snow to be enjoyed at the moment. Not bad at all for mid March! Since my last report there's been about 10cm down in town. Interestingly Kagura only reporting 3cm. Anyway after this welcome blast of winter, we about to start heading back into spring weather. It was still actually snowing very lightly just before but there's some clearing in the clouds and even a bit of sun now, going to be a bit warmer. It might even rain later on which would be a real shame given the fresh snow. Please no. Tomorrow maybe a little colder before sun and warmer conditions altogether from Sunday. Going into next week the forecast is telling us to expect some really warm temperatures... how do you fancy 15+ degrees?! For the moment though, some great conditions to ride. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 1259cm Posted on Thursday 12th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . It was snowing most of the day yesterday - a few periods when it looked like it might actually clear up - but curiously we didn't get that much in terms of new cm. My still-unmoved car has 14cm of snow on top this morning, that's since yesterday morning, and I can see that Kagura report 5cm and Maiko also report 5cm since last night. Interestingly, my friend who works over in the next valley to us in Tokamachi says that it was really coming down over there during the day and there was 30cm to clear off their car by the end of the day. Anyway. It's still snowing now and should be for the day so we should be on for some more. Actually in the last few minutes it has really started coming down hard which is good to see. Snow clouds should be over the region giving us more or less into early Saturday with clearer skies forecast from Sunday and early in the week next week we can expect warmer conditions too - perhaps a return to spring. I didn't make it out onto the slopes yesterday but with some more overnight conditions should be pretty good out there. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 460cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 330cm Iwappara: 245cm Joetsu Kokusai: 280cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 370cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 240cm (lower) Naeba: 280cm NASPA Ski Garden: 310cm Yuzawa Kogen: 300cm (Kogen) 250cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 230cm Yuzawa Now 2014-2015 season Data as of Thursday 12th March 2015 Total snowfall at base so far 1259cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 60 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 100cm (15th December) November 2014 snowfall 0cm December 2014 snowfall 559cm reported on 16 days January 2015 snowfall 420cm reported on 22 days February 2015 snowfall 228cm reported on 17 days March 2015 snowfall 52cm reported on 5 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 25th March 2015

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 1302cm Posted on Wednesday 25th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here . We are being treated to a good old late season blast of winter at the moment. Snow fell for the day yesterday and there has been another 5+cm since last night. I think that it is safe to say that we can add at least another 20cm to add to what I posted yesterday morning, and there is certainly going to be more than that up on the mountains. Yesterday at the end of the day, for example, Kagura reported +30cm during the day, and this morning Maiko Snow Resort are saying that there is a fresh layer of 30cm. Kagura is also reporting this morning another 30cm of fresh (I hope it's not the same lot they reported yesterday evening!) Whatever, these are very fine numbers indeed and the people lucky enough to be here today and tomorrow should be in for something of an unexpected treat. It has been snowing lightly this morning still, but the last of the snowfall (this time anyway) should be falling this morning, with clearing up conditions expected. There's even a slight hint of sun shining through the clouds in places just now. This snowfall might well be the last fresh hurrah of the season - if you can, do try to get to enjoy it. Tomorrow onwards it's going to start warming up again and a lot of sun is forecast daily into next week. --- Official snow depths: GALA Yuzawa: 410cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 335cm Iwappara: 195cm Joetsu Kokusai: 260cm Kagura: 370cm Kandatsu Kogen: 310cm Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm (upper) 230cm (lower) Naeba: 270cm NASPA Ski Garden: 265cm Yuzawa Kogen: 280cm (Kogen) 230cm (Nunoba) Yuzawa Nakazato: 185cm --- Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions.
