Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 637cm Posted on Tuesday 13th January 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa. So where's the sun then? Was expecting clearer skies this morning bit it's still grey and cloudy with light snow slowly falling earlier on this morning. It does look like the clearer conditions have been just 'delayed' though as we have the snow easing off leaving us with a cloudy morning to be followed by a clear evening. And sunny conditions tomorrow and the sun will be warming things up a bit. (High of around +4C forecast). According to the resort, more fresh snow on the lower slopes than upper over the last 24 hours with 15-20cm on lower and 0cm on upper during the day. (Possibly a typo? Who am I to argue!) The main thing that matters is that there has been another decent amount of fresh snow over the last 24 hours. Yes, this morning we have another good 20cm of snow here, with 30cm being reported from the Uenotaira area of the resort. It has been snowing still early this morning but seems to be easing off and we're expecting just cloudy conditions in Nozawa this afternoon. For the moment though it's limited visibility out there even on the lower areas of the resort. Sunny conditions likely tomorrow morning which should be popular as we aren't getting a huge amount of that this season so far. Complaining about snowfall is not allowed though, so we'll be hearing none of that! • Nozawa Now: Thursday 21st January 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 178cm Posted on Thursday 21st January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It is a good morning in Nozawa. New snowfall to report - up to 35cm of it on the upper slopes reported by the resort since yesterday morning - less wind and more of the mountain open. Thanks to the fresh snowfall, Skyline is now open along with a number of other courses that were not open. The snow depth numbers are still very low to what we are used to of course. On this day last year the official snow depth on the upper Yamabiko area was 400cm (compared with 135cm today) and on the lower Karasawa area it was 220cm (compared with 50cm today). That's actually a pretty stark contrast isn't it, even considering that last season we enjoyed a really great start. It's the fresh snow on base that is important to us in the here and now, though with much less of a base that may well impact the length of the season. So - as if it needs saying! - we want as much snow as possible to try and catch up to the norm. The forecast is for light snow at times today and tomorrow to be followed by potentially heavy snowfall over the weekend, in particular on Sunday. Onegai shimasu. For the moment though, there were lots of people eager to get up on the first lifts this morning and I think I will go and join them having fun in this fresh snow. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa where... it's sunny. Hmmm, where be the storm? We did get some snowfall yesterday with the resort yesterday afternoon reporting 3-5cm across the mountain, but no more snowfall this morning and as I said sun along with some blue skies over us at the start of the day. Good news this morning is that the upper parts of Skyline are once again open (lower part still closed) as well as Schneider and Kamoshika course. A good storm for a few days would hopefully get most of the rest of them open... it is still being promised by the forecast. Proper heavy snowfall is expected tonight and snow clouds due to be over Nozawa and the region through the week and over the weekend. Come on!!! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and just a few cm down here at base really with the resort reporting 3-7cm of fresh snowfall since yesterday. Very light snow falling as I write this with light snow forecast for pretty much all of the day today. Tomorrow might start off cloudy (maybe even a bit of sunshine according to some forecasts), but by the end of the day it should be snowing and there's a good chance of heavy snowfall going into Sunday as well. Feels cold this morning and now -2 here in the village and it probably won't change much during the day. Expect Sunday in particular to be colder. Fingers crossed! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 183cm Posted on Saturday 23rd January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa. Snow was falling up on the mountain yesterday and since yesterday morning the resort has reported up to 18cm up there. Much less on lower areas and here in the village. It is a cold morning again with temperatures down at -4C now and it probably won't warm up into positive numbers today. Snowfall is expected late tonight as we enter Sunday and there is a good chance of quite a lot of snow falling tomorrow as well - especially when we get to tomorrow night. Some local forecasts even have a few spells of sunshine lined up for tomorrow before that heavy snow arrives. --- Nighta on the Nagasaka course area from tonight and then every Saturday over the next few months. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 9cm Snowfall at base this season 160cm Posted on Wednesday 20th January 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa where the storm has hit - wind in particular, meaning that the upper areas of the mountain are this morning closed as I write this report. Hopefully they will be able to open if conditions improve but for the moment the open lifts are as noted below and the forecast is for windy conditions for the day. The resort is reporting 20cm of snowfall on the upper areas this morning and 15cm on the Nagasaka area. A strong northerly wind is blowing snow around making for bad visibility and also lots of drifting which in turn makes it difficult to tell just how much snow has fallen. There's a heavy snow warning out currently and we expect more today and perhaps quite a lot too. Bring it on, I say. Forecast is looking pretty good for the coming week too. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and the forecasts did tell us to expect some snowfall overnight - and we got some, a modest 5cm or so. This morning there's some breaks in the cloud for us here in the village but I can see that visibility is very limited up on the Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas... it might even be snowing up there still - it was down here until just before. It will likely clear up fairly quickly though and we're forecast a generally cloudy day with the chance of more snow overnight (probably light snow again). Not much else to report really at the moment as we fast approach February. In the coming days I'll take a look back at the season so far and compare snowfall with previous seasons. Have a good Sunday. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and the first day of February. Light snow is falling this morning and just a couple of cm down at base with 5cm being reported by the resort on the top Yamabiko runs. The webcams show limited visibility on the upper parts of the mountain early on. Snow showers on the forecast for most days over the coming week with the most potential for a decent amount of snow falling looking like it will be on Friday - before that it will probably just be light snow without that much in terms of new cm. Still, it is keeping cold and should be so through the week. Here's to a February that will bring lots of Nozawa-like snowfall. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 239cm Posted on Friday 5th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and the snowfall I have to report this morning is similar to yesterday ranging from a dusting on lower slopes to 5cm on upper slopes. I so miss being able to often report 30cm of fresh dumpage in the village, and I still optimistically hope we'll get to some of that this season - though some locals are more of the 'this is how the season will be' kind of thinking now. So I'm getting excited about what is on the forecast. After some light snow today/tonight perhaps, it's heavy snow forecast tomorrow night (well on some forecasts anyway). Monday is scheduled currently to be clearer and sunny and that to be followed by a return to snowy conditions and the chance of another decent dump. Fingers crossed everyone. Just now there's a lot of fog up top (possibly light snow? - the resort was reporting light snow up there as of 7:30am), making visibility limited in some places. Better in others and maybe it'll clear up this morning. It's going to be a busy weekend. Let's hope there's lots of fresh snow to play in come Sunday morning. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . There's a fog down here this morning. But I can see that up higher on the mountain it's clearer and I can see a mix of cloud and blue sky at the moment. The early morning fog lower down will probably quickly disappear leaving us with a fine morning. Yesterday at 3pm the resort was reporting 1-5cm of snowfall during the day bottom-top and this morning just another small dusting higher up. That's where the numbers below are coming from just in case you were wondering. I'm liking the look of the forecast for Saturday. 'Heavy snow'. We'll have some (lots) of that please. We have of course seen that before but it hasn't quite happened in as dramatic a way as we would like so let's be cautiously optimistic! It should actually be snowing from tomorrow through into Sunday. Here's to a snowy late week and weekend. For today though, enjoy some sunshine. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. It's snowing... in a this-season-special kind of way (ie. not huge dump) but the resort reports up to 10cm of snow on the upper slopes this morning and it is continuing to snow as the lifts start moving. Not expected to last that long today though with the day ending up with the sun shining down on us a possibility. From the official info it looks like Challenge 39 has opened up - going to give that a go today. Clear skies and sun are forecast for tomorrow after a cold night tonight. For those of us looking for dumps of snowfall though Tuesday night seems to be what we should be looking forward to. Let's hope it happens.
