Madarao is reporting 5-10cm of snow since last night (there is 10cm on my car this morning) and add to that what we got yesterday and there should be a decent layer of fresh to enjoy this morning. If anything I feel the resort are under-reporting the snow. Less people as well on this Monday morning, of course, which is good for those of us here. Tomorrow should be excellent with clear skies and sun forecast; and maybe more of that on Wednesday as well. For more snow the forecast says later in the week and as we enter next weekend. After the fine weather yesterday this morning the cloud is back and right now there's a clean line of cloud coming down to about half way down the mountain - decent visibility below, cloud above. Just a bit of snow this morning with the resort reporting 5cm. It's remaining relatively mild though snow is forecast for the day today with perhaps a return to some clearer conditions tomorrow along with colder temperatures. Let's see how much we can get building up today... The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Madarao have suddenly decided to open this morning. The 15-20cm of snow on the slopes since last night no doubt helped, and it was actually more than they were expecting.... hence the 12 noon opening today. Hurray! Thank you Mr Santa-san. But... more please! It's going to be the Number 1 lift again moving, so limited and the lift tickets will cost just 1000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children. More snow is due today, tonight and tomorrow as well so fingers crossed that tomorrow more of the mountain might get to be open. The Tangram Ski Circus is not opening just yet it would seem. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . It's a good cold morning in Madarao. Winter-like, even! :) Another 2-5cm being reported by the resort and yes, there has been 2cm since my last report at base. Light snow has been continuing to fall early this morning, though in surrounding areas there are clearings in the clouds and even some sunshine - so maybe we will soon be getting some of that. Different forecasts seem to be disagreeing about what to expect this week at the moment. Some have snow each day, some are expecting more clearer skies - sadly it's the latter forecast that is usually more accurate. Though they all do agree though that it should be remaining cold, which in itself is a good thing as current snow conditions should remain decent. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . The winds did get more friendly yesterday with Madarao Kogen able to open up around lunchtime. And this morning, what's this... blue skies? Just some thin cloud around but lots of blue above Madarao and a much calmer picture that just 24 hours ago. But hold on, I thought this week was all about snow and storms? Hmmm. What do I know (and apparently the forecasts too)! Those same forecasts do still insist that heavy snowfall is just around the corner, that corner being today and tonight. I sure want to believe! Still, before then the slopes are looking very inviting this morning. Lots of gas-like cloud earlier on this morning but in the last hour or so they clouds have been dispersing and there's some lovely blue skies over Madarao. Still some clouds around but the sun casting big shadows in places... it all looks very dramatic. Hopefully, dramatic is what the weather will be like come Monday and through at least the first bit of next week. We are promised decent snowfall, hopefully the kind that we think of as 'normal' here (but has been lacking so far this season). Can't wait. For now though it should be a fine morning. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Madarao and a good morning it is going to be as well. The resort is reporting 20-30cm of fresh snow on the mountain and I can confirm more than 15cm on the top of my car this morning. It's still snowing early morning as well, though it is expected to ease off quite soon and leave us with a mostly cloudy day. It should be a great morning out there. There's perhaps a chance of more light snow through Monday (but probably not much if it does snow). The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Now this is more like it! A lovely morning with a sea of clouds in the valley below us, some blue skies above us,....and 20+cm of fresh snow on the ground. Yes, I'm extremely pleased to be able to report a good new layer of snow this morning. It actually all came during the day yesterday rather than overnight. Lovely. With the early morning weather as well it should be a really great morning. I am going to be out there, that's for sure! The even better news is that more snow is due later on today and into tomorrow and that snow around Monday as well is still on the cards. If we can just get a fairly decent amount over these next few days, there'll be lots of happy people. Monday is a national holiday in Japan so it is long 3-day weekend coming up, and traditionally one of the more popular for people heading to the ski resorts. So it should be busy. And I expect there to be lots of people who have been waiting for fresh snow as well. Hope you can enjoy it. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . 10-15cm of fresh snow is being reported by Madarao this morning and the day has started with light snow continuing to fall though that isn't expected to continue for long. Clearing up is the more likely. It's keeping quite cold this morning so the conditions out there should be pretty good this morning. And there will be less people around now that we are on the last day of the long weekend. Especially by this afternoon expect things to be something more like a normal weekday, and then of course we'll be back into the normal weekday routine from tomorrow. Can't help but feel looking at the forecast that it has been somewhat 'downgraded' in terms of likely snowfall in the next week. Hmmm. Anyway, good for this morning! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . There is another 15cm of fresh snow here in Madarao and things are starting to look much improved. With snow continuing to fall today and more forecast later tomorrow and into Monday, it's feeling exciting for this long weekend we are just starting. With more snow hopefully it will not be long before the Tree Run courses will be able to open (they currently remain closed). Should be good this morning though. It's the Fire Festival at Madarao Kogen tonight, starting at 8:30pm with sweet sake and tangerines (!) along with other things going on. Fireworks at 9pm followed by torch-lit skiers putting on a display down the slopes. The second photo today will give you an idea. Come on more snow! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . All change again! This morning 20-30cm of fresh snowfall across the mountain with snow still falling. Great news. 16cm is what my measuring stick says this morning though with the wind it's more and less in different places. But I think that's a decent representation of the overnight haul. Less great is the fact that strong winds are going to preventing lifts from opening as normal at Madarao Kogen, so the day is starting off on hold. It looks like Tangram is going to be opening. The forecast is for more snow and strong winds through the day today, so there is a chance that Madarao won't open. As you can see on the forecast below, the snow should pass us by tomorrow with more snow forecast for the weekend. Tomorrow should be great! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Madarao was able to mostly open up during the day after that windy start. And there's lots more snow to report this morning after that snowy day and overnight - the resort is reporting 30cm of fresh and there was a good 25cm of fresh snow on the top of my car and in my back yard this morning. Yey! Best conditions of the season so far to be had right now. Oh yes. And... while not much snow expected now over the next few days, another dump is forecast for later on Saturday through Sunday.
