Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 537cm Posted on Friday 21st February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Nozawa where light snow has been falling from the skies this morning. The resort reported 15cm of fresh on Uenotaira, and about 7cm on the top Yamabiko areas overnight, with an additional 1-5cm across the mountain up until just after 10am this morning. So just a dusting down at base really but more fresh to be found higher up. I wouldn't expect much more in terms of cm today looking at what the forecasts say - which is mostly just cloud for today. One things the forecasts do seem to agree on though is that there's hardly any snow forecast for the coming week past tomorrow and the potential for lots of sun. We haven't seen a whole lot of the sun of late so it will be good, but lets just hope it doesn't warm up too much. Around Tuesday temperatures are due to be into positive numbers. Should keep cold for the weekend though. Expect Nozawa to be very busy this weekend! Hope you can come and enjoy the current conditions. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 521cm Posted on Tuesday 18th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . More snow in Nozawa. Yes, the last run of days since late last week has really felt more like a 'normal' Nozawa with the consistent snowfall. We're even getting the 'too much snow' comments from some people - always a good sign! Since yesterday the Yamabiko area has reported 25cm; Uenotaira 35cm; Hikage 5cm; Nagasaka 30cm; Hikage 25cm; Kawasawa 20cm. Whatever the numbers, there's more fresh out there this morning and it is continuing to snow this morning. If the forecasts are to be believed, snow should dry up during today and tomorrow should be a cloudy day; perhaps even clear and sunny. Roads around Nozawa are ok but there are still some roads that people use to get here not open - still! - and warnings of more snow for Tokyo before the weekend. Hopefully that will not affect peoples plans like it has done since last weekend. For those able to be here.... great conditions to be found. Hope you can get to enjoy it. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Mixed conditions this morning. The sun is out down here at base, but still quite a lot of cloud up top and it was snowing earlier on this morning. We seem to be sandwiched between areas this morning where it's still snowing (Yuzawa) and places to the west where there's brilliant blue sky (Hakuba) this morning. Oh yes, the resort is reporting 18cm of fresh snowfall up on Yamabiko and up to 30cm on Uenodaira since yesterday morning as it was snowing for most of the day up there on the mountain, with not as much to show for it lower down by base - 5cm or so. Hikage area reporting 10cm. Forecasts tell us to expect the sun and so I reckon it will probably clear up and leave us with a good fine day here, with similar due tomorrow too. Hardly any snow forecast through into the middle of next week. Sun, clear and cloud is lined up. It's also due to get warmer as well mid week, perhaps a bit too warm for our liking. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Fresh snow! Not huge amounts but fresh snow all the same. Up to 5cm on upper slopes and just a sprinkling to few cm down at base. Good to see some fresh snow on the trees as well this morning. It has eased off for the moment and it's a cloudy morning. Visibility generally ok but poor in places on the mountain. And you know what, if some forecasts are to be believed, things are looking fairly promising this coming week, especially around Wednesday/Thursday when we could be blessed by some decent snowfall and much colder winter-like conditions. Yamabiko - 35cm Uenotaira - 25cm Hikage - 22cm Nagasaka - 22cm Karasawa - 20cm Oh yes. And things are getting quieter as well weekdays now. It is a good time to be here this season - definitely a note needs to be made. Early March 2014? Yes, definitely very good for Nozawa. This morning the sun is out and we are enjoying blue skies above. It is cold early but temps should creep just a bit into positive numbers early afternoon. It's going to get warmer tomorrow though and after that we might get some rain. Let's just hope that it doesn't warm up too much and we can avoid much wetness, that would spoil things. I will give you the latest on that situation in my report tomorrow (which by the way may be posted later in the day). The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday was one of those best left forgotten wet and rainy affairs, but again I am able to bring much better news to replace that image in the form of fresh snow this morning. 5cm down at base, a bit more in places. Actually the resort has the lower slopes (8cm) down for more than Yamabiko which is interesting. It is still snowing now and should hopefully continue doing so for the rest of the day. When tomorrow arrives, we'll probably see sun and after that it's sun/cloud mostly on the forecast into next week. As we get into next week, a real warm-up is expected with double digit temperatures down in the village. Fresh snow is of course going to be in short supply from now, and so we really need to make the most of this. Mostly poor visibility out on the slopes, so care needed. Today is a national holiday and so the first of a 3 day weekend... all lifts moving this morning as we are on weekend mode already. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . After a cold night the sun is shining and we have blue skies above Nozawa. Oh yes, some new snow to play in too! The resort is reporting 15-18cm of fresh up on the top areas of the mountain this morning, up to 10cm on lower areas, so there will be some good tracks to be made up there as I sit down here writing this. So it is a cold start to the day and with the fresh snow conditions should be great. There's hardly any wind and it's just a really fine morning. Sunny conditions are expected tomorrow as well, and while it will get cold again tonight it's expected to warm up considerably during the day tomorrow and we may well get some precipitation later. Hopefully the white kind. It's expected to be warm over the next week or so. Is that a dip in temperatures I can see on the forecast for later in the week? Wet snow for sure, certainly down here near base (borderline sleet at times), but definitely better than rain! The resort is this morning reporting 8cm on the upper slopes and 5cm on lower slopes here around base. Just a few cm on my car this morning. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Trust me to be away for this weekend. I am in Nagano city at the moment and providing this report to you from here and so going on the official word from the resort as well as a phone call to a friend in Nozawa. Usually in early April there's not going to be much action but... ...the resort is reporting 25cm of fresh snow this morning! Yes, I had to look twice there, but that's what they have. Uenotaira and Yamabiko both with 25cm of fresh, and some snow down to the village as well... though actually the sun is out now as we approach 9am. Sounds like a good start to the day to me! There doesn't actually seem to be big changes to what is open this morning, but the Paradise quad seems to be moving. The forecast for today and tomorrow is a mix of sun, cloud and sometimes snow. Anyway, today should be a real bonus for people heading up top. I just wish I was! Wrap up well if you are, it's cold up there. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We were hoping for snow of course, and we had been eyeing up that forecast on the site from a number of days ago.... but I don't quite think many people actually believed that really we would get quite as much snow as we have got. Check this out: Yamabiko - 29cm + 40cm Uenotaira - 25cm + 25cm Hikage - 25cm + 25cm Nagasaka - 25cm + 25cm Karasawa - 20cm + 25cm The first number is how much the resort reported from yesterday morning up until 3pm yesterday afternoon. The second number is the overnight number since 3pm yesterday. So between 45cm and 69cm! So that means that since yesterday morning Nozawa is reporting a whopping 69cm of snow on Yamabiko and 50cm on Uenotaira. Unbelievable! Could not have asked for more than this. And what's more, the sun is out this morning. Blue skies. Nice and cold to start the day. If this is the last main snowfall of the season which is pretty likely, a warm up is due this week, then we will have ended it in style. I really must get my gear on as quickly as possible and get up there to check it out! Today is going to be the better of the two weekend days as the forecast remains for rain tomorrow. Can it snow on the upper slopes later on in the day? From Monday, lift ticket prices get a bit cheaper - for example a one day adult ticket is reduced from 4600 yen to 3500 yen; a one day child ticket is reduced from 2100 yen to 1500 yen. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 20cm Posted on Saturday 6th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I bring very good news. Yes, Nozawa has been on the receiving end of a good dump of fresh snow since yesterday and the resort is reporting an impressive 70cm of snow up on Yamabiko. Surprises are great when they are nice snowy ones. :) What's more, it's enough for the resort to spring (or is that winter) into action, as they have announced that Nozawa will be opening tomorrow morning. It's snowing nicely down here at base as well with at least 20cm on the ground and the way it's coming down that will soon add up. Snow forecast for the day, perhaps easing off tomorrow and then maybe not much as we enter the new week. But Nozawa'll be open by then and we'll be able to enjoy the first runs of the season. Nozawa Onsen will open at least some of the top Yamabiko runs tomorrow.
