The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Conditions were rather... blustery... out on the mountain yesterday. Happo was largely closed for lots of the day and other places were limited due to the windy conditions. I made my way up to the top of Goryu in the afternoon along with a few other hardy souls. It kept on snowing, at times lovely great big flakes. 20cm or so during the day yesterday and another 10cm to add to that by this morning. Snow conditions were excellent, weather and general visibility less so! This morning I can see much more and the sun is making an early morning appearance too. There's quite a bit of blue sky up there, with some cloud hanging around covering the mountain backdrop to Hakuba. A cold morning and about minus seven degrees now in the Hakuba village area. Snow showers possible according to the local forecast, but it feels like the clear up may be happening now. Tomorrow might be bluebird time. From tomorrow through until the end of the week we can expect some milder temperatures with another topup of snow currently forecast just before the weekend. Looks like most resort areas are open today, though it seems that the top lifts at Happo - including Skyline - remain closed, so the wind still causing some issues up there apparently. Cortina mostly open with the Number 4 lift moving and earlier on the Number 5 being checked. Conditions today should be excellent, and the same avalanche advice applies. There's an abundance of untouched powder out there on lift-serviced terrain. And wind. It continues to snow. Since yesterday up to 50cm being reported (Cortina), with an average of up to 30cm around the village. It's certainly coming down this weekend. The trees are laden with snow and we feel right slap bang in the middle of winter. Let this feeling continue, especially as we are fast approaching March. Wind is affecting resorts. Happo is basically only lower lifts this morning as I write this, and the top lifts at Goryu are also on hold. Cortina has it's Number 4 and 5 lifts closed and related courses, due to avalanche risk, so all the goodies out there aren't accessible this morning. Hakuba 47 seems like it has most of it's area open this morning and so perhaps a good choice in terms of open terrain. It's -7 degrees at village level with a moderate wind here and it doesn't look like it's going to calm down much for the day today. Very dangerous avalanche conditions with all this new snow piling up. Please see yesterdays message and do take care. The storm should begin easing off tomorrow and if you are keen to see the sun, Tuesday might be a good idea to get up there. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Not much in terms of new snow to report from Hakuba this morning. Yesterday we got to see some sunlight shine down on the village in the afternoon. Lots of clouds remained around the mountains but quite a lot of blue sky above the valley before evening arrived. This morning there's still a lot of cloud around but sunny in the village at the moment. A bit like how the day ended yesterday really. It is currently around -4C in Hakuba and Usagidaira at 1400m is recording a temperature of -9C, with just a slight wind - windier conditions on the mountain. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. So yesterday we had that lovely bluebird start to the day. By early afternoon some fine wispy clouds had started to form and it gradually became more overcast and by late afternoon the sun was being blocked by cloud and we had a lot of cloud cover. It snowed a bit overnight with a few cm at village level and resorts in Hakuba and Otari reporting up to 10cm of fresh snow on the slopes this morning. This morning we start off cloudy and overcast, with some light snowing in some areas early on, and a current temperature of around 0 degrees. A high of around +5 is forecast today for Hakuba and so it's going to feel mild especially after the cold of the last week or so. Not much of a wind this morning at all. We are told to expect the skies to clear up as the day progresses today. Milder conditions and clearer skies are forecast over the next few days and especially on Friday when rain is looking probably unfortunately. Temps forecast to drop soon after that warm though with snow likely overnight into Saturday. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It is a very lovely, clear and crisp morning in Hakuba early on today. Earlier on it was more cloudy but over the last few hours the clouds have been moving on and nice blue skies are opening up over Hakuba. Perhaps the clouds hanging over the mountains at the time of writing will move on as well as the morning progresses. It's a cold start to the morning anyway, currently around -4 degrees with no wind. Only a dusting of fresh snow to report around the village but resorts are reporting 10cm or so of fresh this morning. The previous blizzard has given the resorts unbelievable conditions to open up more runs and enjoy skiing and snowboarding all week. The outlook for the next few days is some cloud with the sunshine brightening up the valley until tomorrow. So, we are due for a drier period over the next few days and into next week. Warmer too, especially around Saturday when rain is expected to be falling, even higher up on the mountains. Hopefully that will be shortlived but this time it doesn't seem to be followed by snow. With the recent blizzard conditions though conditions out there today and tomorrow should be very good. Things are still quiet as well, so a good time to be here. From today, all of the official courses at Hakuba 47 are going to be open and at connecting Hakuba Goryu all of the Toomi area is now open. The Iimori area of Goryu will be opening up from Saturday. More of Happo-one opened yesterday with the Risen quad lift moving and that Riesen Slalom course stretch of the resort on the left side opening up. You can also now ski and board back down to the Gondola base station at Happo-one. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . There's not a whole lot of new snow to report this morning since yesterday and the heavy snowfall that we have been experiencing since the weekend seems to have eased off now. We did well out of it though and it has really changed things just in those few days. This morning it is a little warmer and hardly any wind at all but light snow is likely to be falling throughout the day. The calmer conditions will likely be giving the resorts a bit of time and space to sort things out and hopefully prepare for more areas to open up. On that subject... The headline for today I suppose is that Hakuba 47 have said that from tomorrow (Thursday), all of their runs will be open. As if it's peak season! Nice. For Thursday and Friday, Happo-one plan to have the following lifts operating - Gondola, Alpen Quad, Kurobishi No2 quad, Panorama Pair, Happo Riesen quad. Hakuba Iwatake plans to open for the season on Saturday and should have no problem doing so. Looking at the latest forecast, we can expect to see the sun tomorrow shining over the valley and it does look like we are going to enter a drier stretch into next week. I'll also mention the fact that warmer temperatures and rain are probable on Saturday, in the hope that such things might be avoided! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. It's a cloudy start to the day and a few cm, up to 5cm or so, around the village with resorts report up to 20cm of snow on upper slopes since yesterday. The temperature is currently -3C with that set to rise to around +3C later on in the afternoon. The forecast is for cloud today. Good visibility on the lower slopes but higher areas are covered in cloud. Tomorrow will be quite mild with a chance of light rain in the daytime though it should be snowing on the mountains. Sunday is when the cold front begins to move in and bring with it the snow we are hoping for, still looking on for a good dump of snow Sunday into Monday. While lots of area is open, we could really do with another good delivery of snow with less than perfect conditions. It was pretty icy out there yesterday, though the new snow overnight last night should improve things. I'd head up high if I were going out today. More lifts at Happo-one will be operating from today (see below) including Skyline, with all areas planned to be open as soon as tomorrow. From tomorrow Happo-one also plan to have the Shirakaba 1 and 2 pair lifts, as well as the Usagidaira pair lift and Central pair lifts operating. The latter two are open on Saturdays, public holidays and over the New Year period). This was mentioned last season - the area located around the top Grat Quad lift at Happo-one is designated as National Parklands. Because of that the resort is only able to open that lift and course when there is enough snow to do so, to maintain and protect the natural environment. They are ready to get that open tomorrow, though it's going to depend on the snow which at the moment seems to be hovering around the 150cm number needed. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from a snowy Hakuba, with about 15cm on the ground to report. Hurray! Can't see much out there this morning with poor visibility down in the village. A quick look at the webcams from around the resorts shows visibility not so bad out there in places. It's not particularly cold this morning, with temperatures hovering around 0C early on and no wind. We're hoping that the snow will continue today though the forecast tells us that it will be getting warmer with a possible high of around 5-6C and sadly a chance of rain. In the village at least, and snow higher up on the mountain. But let's try to be positive on that score.... Tomorrow might start off calm but that potentially heavy snowfall is still lurking around on the forecast for later on tomorrow followed by a few more days of snowy conditions so lets hope we can get a good snow haul out of this. From tomorrow temps should take a dip as well. As mentioned yesterday, most of Happo is now open. The top Grat quad is supposed to be opening today at 9am but we don't have confirmation on that at the time of writing. Will update this page as soon as we hear on that either way. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . The snow was falling most of the time yesterday and overnight, but this morning just a few cm of new snow to report in the village. Goryu and 47 are both reporting 5cm of new snow on upper slopes, while just to the north in Otari the Hakuba Cortina resort received 10-15cm of new snow overnight. It is a colder morning with a temperature of -6C earlier on, currently around -5C in the village. Snow showers earlier on have been clearing up as and while there is still a lot of cloud there is an increasing amount of blue sky on show as well. It looks like things may well clear up further as the day moves on. The current forecast tell us to expect somewhat milder conditions Friday and Saturday before a cold front moves in late weekend bringing with it potentially heavy snowfall. Hopefully it will once again be a very white and snowy Christmas! Someone emailed us asking a question about the new snowfall numbers that we put on the page for some resorts - and why we present the numbers for some resorts and not others. The simple reason for that is that the information is readily available on a daily basis for the ones that we put on the page. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It was a colder early morning in Hakuba, down to around -3C overnight and currently hovering around 0C, though likely to rise to around 6C later on in the day. The sun is out and blue skies all around with just a slight south westerly wind. So a clear morning likely with patches of cloud and fingers crossed later on it should be snowing, though it may well start off as rain and sleet before the white stuff starts to fall. Tomorrow should be colder though and bring with it fresh snow, so we can look forward to that. The colder temperatures should remain through the week as well, though at the moment the forecast doesn't promise any significant snowfall after what we get tonight into tomorrow, through into next week. In resort news this morning, Happo-one seem to be saying that they will have all courses on the mountain open from Friday. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Welcome to the weekend in Hakuba. Not the best of starts really from a weather point of view. We had a bit of snow overnight in the village and resorts reporting 5cm on lower slopes and up to 10cm on upper slopes, though rain is unfortunately spoiling it early on this morning. So it is a bit of a wet start to the day today and definitely feels more mild than it has been - temperatures didn't really drop below zero overnight and today a high of around 8 degrees is likely. Cloud and rain seems to be what's in store for the day and perhaps overnight as well. Resorts are reporting that new snowfall though and snow does seem to be falling higher up in places on the mountains. As I mentioned yesterday more resorts are open this morning, along with more terrain and lifts opening up at resorts that have been open (see yesterdays report). Tomorrow will remain mild, though with temperatures not as high as today, with a return to colder conditions around Tuesday/Wednesday. Have a fun weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . No new snow to report from Hakuba this morning. In the alpine country beyond the ski resorts snowfall was reported to be minimal at around 1cm. Earlier on this morning there was lots of blue sky above the village but it has since been clouding over and it is much duller now as the morning progresses with less of the sun and more cloud. Visibility still good on the mountain though. Those clouds may well bring us a bit of snow later in the day. It was cold overnight getting down to -8C, and is now around -3C though we probably won't see temperatures rise into the positive today. Tomorrow and Saturday are forecast to bring with them milder conditions again with a chance of rain on Saturday, lower down at least. The good news though is that some heavy snowfall is due on Sunday and into early in the week so fingers crossed we get another good dump from that.
