  • Niseko Now: Wednesday 3rd April 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1466cm Weather overview Cloud, fog Wind Light Temperature -1C base / -5C top Visibility Generally poor Posted at 2:35pm on Wednesday 3rd April 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here [Originally posted earlier this morning - late appearance due to technical issues] Good morning from Niseko. It's a warm one this morning. Clearer earlier on but more cloudy now with some foggy conditions meaning poor visibility on some of the upper slopes today and that actually affecting some of the lifts including the top King Number 4 at Niseko Grand Hirafu, the top Hanazono lift and the Hirafu Spring Park as of 10:30am. It feels like it's going to warm up a fair bit more today and that's what the forecast is saying as well. A proper spring like feel to the air. The forecast sun for the day hasn't turned up but tomorrow the forecast is calling for similar sunny conditions - so perhaps it'll clear up by then. Perhaps not as warm. Getting quieter and quieter out on the slopes now! Planned resort operations Niseko Hanazono - until Sunday 7th April Niseko Village - until Sunday 7th April Niseko Annupuri - until Monday 6th May Niseko Grand Hirafu - until Monday 6th May Niseko Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Wednesday 3rd April 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 1464cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 109 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 45cm (27th January) November 2012 snowfall 118cm reported on 11 days December 2012 snowfall 418cm reported on 27 days January 2013 snowfall 443cm reported on 26 days February 2013 snowfall 316cm reported on 24 days March 2013 snowfall 164cm reported on 19 days April 2013 snowfall 7cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 1466cm Weather overview Cloud, light snow Wind Light Temperature -1C base / -5C top Visibility Generally poor Posted at 8:08am on Tuesday 2nd April 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Yesterday winds ended up affecting some lift operations on the mountain again but it seems today the resorts are getting ready to be open as normal. Just a sprinkling of new snow, perhaps up to a few cm in places, but it's fairly wet. It's all a bit dull out there this morning actually with a fog on the mountain making visibility in places really poor. Just a slight wind at the moment at base. Perhaps a bit brighter tomorrow but along with it the chance of rainfall. Planned resort operations Niseko Hanazono - until Sunday 7th April Niseko Village - until Sunday 7th April Niseko Annupuri - until Monday 6th May Niseko Grand Hirafu - until Monday 6th May Niseko Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Tuesday 2nd April 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 1464cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 109 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 45cm (27th January) November 2012 snowfall 118cm reported on 11 days December 2012 snowfall 418cm reported on 27 days January 2013 snowfall 443cm reported on 26 days February 2013 snowfall 316cm reported on 24 days March 2013 snowfall 164cm reported on 19 days April 2013 snowfall 7cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. • Niseko Now: Monday 8th April 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1466cm Weather overview Cloud, wet snow Wind Strong Temperature 1C base / -3C top Visibility OK Posted at 10:54am on Monday 8th April 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here We sure got a lot of rain over the weekend. Really heavy rain falling through into the middle of Sunday and I can't imagine it has done any favours for the snow conditions and hearing of some slides on the mountain as well. Wet sleet/snow was falling earlier on this morning and now a little later it snowing. Still wet though, but definitely colder than it has been. Strong winds are persisting today with basically most of the ski lifts closed at the resort areas that remain open for the season. Niseko Annupuri has been closed completely while just a few lower lifts at Grand Hirafu. All very limited. So from today it is just those two areas with Niseko Village taking a break until 27th April, when they will re-open for Golden Week, and Niseko Hanazono who have closed for the season. Tomorrow should be slightly warmer with a mix of cloud and the chance of light sleet/snow from time to time. Planned resort operations Niseko Hanazono - closed for the season Niseko Village - currently closed but will re-open between 27th April and 6th May Niseko Annupuri - until Monday 6th May Niseko Grand Hirafu - until Monday 6th May Niseko Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Monday 8th April 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 1464cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 109 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 45cm (27th January) November 2012 snowfall 118cm reported on 11 days December 2012 snowfall 418cm reported on 27 days January 2013 snowfall 443cm reported on 26 days February 2013 snowfall 316cm reported on 24 days March 2013 snowfall 164cm reported on 19 days April 2013 snowfall 7cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1466cm Weather overview Blue skies Wind Light Temperature 5C base / 0C top Visibility Excellent Posted at 1:56pm on Thursday 4th April 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here [Originally posted earlier this morning - late appearance due to technical issues] Yesterday was a really warm day out there and temperatures didn't dip much overnight - warmest overnight I can remember this year - and this morning we have lovely blue skies over the Niseko region. No doubt it will be a rather mild day once again, though perhaps not as much as yesterday. No new snow of course and the snow that is out there will be I would expect rather moist and slushy this morning. Still, there's lots of it. A moderate wind blowing on the Annupuri area means that they have their Gondola and Jumbo Number 4 lifts on hold, though other resorts appear to be operating as planned. We are expecting more sunny weather conditions over the next few days and it will remain fairly warm with perhaps rain on Sunday. The days of fresh deliveries of snow over this season? We shall see... Just four more days of the season over on the Niseko Hanazono area. Planned resort operations Niseko Hanazono - until Sunday 7th April Niseko Village - until Sunday 7th April Niseko Annupuri - until Monday 6th May Niseko Grand Hirafu - until Monday 6th May Niseko Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Thursday 4th April 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 1464cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 109 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 45cm (27th January) November 2012 snowfall 118cm reported on 11 days December 2012 snowfall 418cm reported on 27 days January 2013 snowfall 443cm reported on 26 days February 2013 snowfall 316cm reported on 24 days March 2013 snowfall 164cm reported on 19 days April 2013 snowfall 7cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 1466cm Weather overview Cloud, rain Wind Strong Temperature 0C base / 0C top Visibility Not good Posted at 8:10am on Sunday 7th April 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Ah yes, rain. It's raining this morning. It's all wet and windy I'm afraid, pretty wild conditions and not much fun to be out at all. Time for an onsen. Even if you wanted to ski or board today, you might be in trouble as while it's still early on word is that many if not all lifts on the mountain won't be moving this morning. Keep an eye on the official sites for the latest there. It'll probably warm up to around 10 degrees today and then gradually get colder into tomorrow but the strong winds will likely be with us tomorrow as well. Today is the last day of the season for the Niseko Hanazono area and also of daily operations at Niseko Village. Planned resort operations Niseko Hanazono - until Sunday 7th April Niseko Village - until Sunday 7th April and then 27th April until 6th May Niseko Annupuri - until Monday 6th May Niseko Grand Hirafu - until Monday 6th May Niseko Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Sunday 7th April 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 1464cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 109 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 45cm (27th January) November 2012 snowfall 118cm reported on 11 days December 2012 snowfall 418cm reported on 27 days January 2013 snowfall 443cm reported on 26 days February 2013 snowfall 316cm reported on 24 days March 2013 snowfall 164cm reported on 19 days April 2013 snowfall 7cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here A cloudy day here in Niseko today. The top Jumbo Number 4 lift at Niseko Annupuri has been on and off a few times this morning due to a mix of poor visibility and wind, with the top lifts at Niseko Grand Hirafu also similarly affected by the wind. There's not many people out there on the slopes at all now anyway... it is feeling very quiet now and more businesses in the village are also closed for the season, you can feel everything starting to wind down. We're into the 'Final' lift ticket prices now... 8 hours at Hirafu for 2800 yen and 'all mountain' for 3800 yen. Taking a look at the forecast, we are going to keep fairly cold in the week and maybe even see some dustings of snow here and there higher up but it might well be falling as rain at base. Will keep you up to date! Hope you like the new look. A short report this morning - another warm morning here and nice clear weather, though it might cloud over later in the day. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here More cloud this morning but some breaks in it as well over to the east, but generally just a cloudy day. But.... some snow too. Up to 5cm or so in places! The Gondola and top lift at Annupuri have been on hold due to wind conditions, and over at Hirafu we have the Ace Number 2 Center 4 and the King Number 3 lifts operating... with the top King 4 also not operating due to wind. Seems to be stronger over on the Annupuri side. Later on rain is due, to turn hopefully into snow - at least higher up - and that might last into tomorrow. We can't expect anything significant at this stage though of course. But it would be nice to see a new dusting all the same. More new snow to report overnight and light snow falling this morning... looks like we may have a snowy day in front of us. Alas, windy too and it's going to be affecting lift operations today it seems. Personal comment - I'm not quite sure how the resort got from 415cm to 460cm over the last few days... really that much new snow? I haven't actually been out there myself in the last few days, but that is what the resort is reporting anyway... The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Snow is falling at base level; the first of the season! It's not a lot, it's barely white, but it's snow. A quick peek through the fog this morning also showed some pretty white slopes up on the hill. It's going to be another month at least until lift actually start moving--most likely, barring the big falls that can happen (what a pathetic prediction for you right there), but it's always nice to see the snow. Nothing much else to say as we enjoy the waiting game. It feels wintery; all the prep work still isn't finished (think two or three times before you really consider buying a lovely guest house in this roof- and tree-crushing snow country, unless you're ready to hire a bunch of locals), but somehow we get things more or less in order so we stay warm, the decorations don't disappear by spring and we get out and play on the hills. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Genuine snow down past the highway today; about 10cm at the lifts. Not enough to ski, of course, but it's the first for the season. Very heavy, too; glad a lot didn't fall, because these early snows always bring down trees and power lines. There were a few crews running around with power line equipment, so there must have been some minor damage. I have set up a proper snow study area right near the house here (so just below the base at Akakan), so I can give more accurate snow depths and snowfall figures (but I won't bore you with snow density reports unless it's really light or super heavy). So I can tell you that we had exactly 8cm here, and a walk up to the lifts showed a little more. Not bad, huh? Now to set up the automated weather station (if prompt work payment comes in soon!).
