The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Furano has received a solid amount of fresh snowfall overnight and it is extremely light and dry, even at village level. Weatherwise it couldn't be a better day with little in the way of wind and nice blue sky over the resort. With all this snow in the last few days the groomers are skiing superbly and likewise the off piste areas have plenty of unpacked powder to play around in. Tomorrow is looking like it will be sunny again and the cream on the pudding will be a good dump of snow tomorrow evening if the forecast proves to be correct. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Some blue skies and sun at times through the day yesterday and just slightly over 1cm of fresh snow on ground by base to report to you all this morning. I see the Avalanche Report is reporting 10-15cm in places higher up. It was very cold overnight and is keeping cold at the moment which is all important. And after just saying that, it does seem to be the case that tomorrow will be milder during the daytime but with snow starting to fall once again later on. And then fingers crossed we'll see some consistent snow through Friday and over the weekend. There's quite a lot of blue sky now and the sun is out. It should be a lovely morning. Things seem calm this morning and all lifts will be opening so I expect a rush to get up top. That's about it really for today I think. Until tomorrow! --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 6am: -9℃, light snowfall. Moiwa 800m: -8.6℃m, W2.9m/s (20.2m/s at 2pm and 16.2m/s at 6pm yesterday), 10cm snowfall. Annupuri 1150m: -13℃, W13m/s, 15cm snowfall. Hirafu 1250m: -9℃, light breeze and light snowfall. Kamui cape lighthouse: SW9m/s, 1022hPa, 2.0m waves. The isobars are spreading out and the wind is calming down, The wind’s peak reached 20.2m/s at 2:20pm yesterday at 800m elevation in the west-side of the mountain, stagnating below 12m/s after 6pm. The snowdrifts that developed under this storm is consolidating and no outstanding instability has been observed during this morning’s pressure test. The general avalanche risk is lowering, however slides are still to be expected in leeward knolls and cornice slopes with large snowdrift development around 1100m elevation. Extended stimulation could trigger an avalanche any time. Expected sliding layer is Feb 17th hoar layer. Gate 1 and 4 will be kept closed during the morning, but 2, 3, 5 and 8 are expected to open. Please follow the ski patrol’s instructions. Do not duck ropes to enter O-sawa, Fujiwara-no-sawa, or any other area that are restricted. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba everybody. So yesterday's dreaded rain did come through and it rained fairly hard for a large proportion of the day. The good news though is that this rain turned to snow in the evening and it has snowed hard all night! Even now the snow is still coming down pretty hard. I believe the technical term is "puking it down"! As a result, we have fresh snow all over the mountain. Please do take care as this is fresh snow on top of ice so you definitely don't want to misjudge a turn today. At the moment the gondola to the top and the lifts at the top of the mountain are on hold waiting to be cleared to open once ski patrol gives the all clear. These lifts may or may not open today depending on ski patrols safety judgment. The weather forecast is currently predicting snow for the next couple of days with potentially some ran on Thursday morning. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that! Fruity! The sound of strong wind could be heard overnight, and stepping outside this morning the fresh snow on the ground showed clearly that there had been a wind effect. There was a decent top up of 4cm at village level but due to the wind it is likely to be a bit firm and inconsistent on the mountain on exposed runs but potentially better where there is shelter. Wind in the village is still moderate at the moment but should reduce in intensity during the day. Sky conditions are clear with mostly blue sky, and the sun is out. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After the wild start to yesterday and snow, it turned into rain in the daytime (?!) before turning back into snow later on. Somewhat mixed up and confusing weather conditions yesterday. And this morning it's a totally snowy story. I have 16cm to report at my measuring point and similar around... and resorts are reporting up to 40cm of fresh snow on upper areas: Hakuba 47: 30cm overnight (and 10cm daytime yesterday) Hakuba Goryu: 10-40cm Hakuba Happo-one: 20-40cm Hakuba Cortina: 10-20cm Very nice. Unfortunately, it's still a bit mad out this morning and top lifts are again affected - bit more on that in the individual info below but best to check directly if you plan a day out in this lot. Perhaps it will all ease off later on today, and the forecast seems to point to clearer and sunny skies tomorrow morning at least (to be followed by more snow). That sounds good to me. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Wow! I have another impressive amount of snowfall to report this morning. The official Shiga Kogen website is reporting 55cm. I am measuring (on average) about 50cm, but seriously I would say the wind conditions would make it difficult for two people to agree on a number this morning. But I think mine is probably a fair representation. It's full on blizzard conditions this morning. Can hardly see a thing, even the building next to mine. Yesterday the snow was of the more heavy wet kind but it's more Shiga Kogen-like this morning and really coming down right now. If you really want to be out in this -- not for me! -- I'd check with resorts for the latest as there will surely be a number of lift disruptions due to the wind and blowing snow this morning. It looks like operations are generally quite limited so there's not a full choice anyway. Once this storm clears though things should be again fantastic. Only a few of the official snow depth numbers have updated this morning and only by a bit. I think they are probably a bit too busy 'coping' just at the moment. It's a good problem to have, of course, and far preferable to there not being enough snow. We sure don't have that problem this season! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. It's good to be back to winter this morning after the mild and unfortunately wet day that we had yesterday. The wind calmed down enough for the Nagasaka Gondola, Uenotaira quad and Skyline connecting lifts to open in the afternoon. But not the best of days... but quickly forgotten with 20cm or so on the ground this morning. It's interesting to see the snow reports from the resort this morning. 40cm at Yamabiko (top), 30cm at Uenotaira, 20cm at Hikage and 10cm the lowest reading from Karasawa base. So 10-40cm, bottom-top. Most lifts are back to normal as well today though at the time of writing it does look like the Uenotaira and Paradise quad lifts are on hold due the weather. Snow is still falling here and is forecast for the day, clearing up later with cloud (or possible fine clearer weather) lined up on the forecast for tomorrow. I'm heading up to Yamabiko. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Wind and pretty heavy snow, after a day of heavy rains yesterday (the hut roof was a'ringin with the sound of raindrops through the day). Lots of snow out there; just heard from a local guide who reported waist-deep high on Akakan. Apparently yesterday's rain was snow up high. The official Niigata prediction of 35cm was almost right on the mark; I'm estimating 33cm, considering the blowing and drifting and low spots. Still some pretty strong winds out there; it's tapered off a bit, after near whiteout conditions around the Akakan base until 9 or so. In fact everything has quieted down at the moment, as we've moved to light snow, calmer conditions and even a hint of the sun trying to come through (although experiences says this could just be a momentary break in the storm). The gondolas are running; No. 3 at Suginohara, which is quite allergic to wind, started the day closed.
