The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Brrrrr... it is a cold winter... April... morning! There's more snow to report, this time I have 5cm to add to the record. Light snow early on but we expect mostly cloudy skies today. Still some more snow potential on the forecast as winter refuses to give up grip this year. That will be mixed in with a good amount of clearer sunnier skies and maybe some rain as well (though when it is raining at base it should still be snow higher up). Parts of the mountain now closed but still quite a big area available with the lifts below still operating. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Shiga Kogen. It's like early February. Heavy snow. And actually pretty good quality snow too (not heavy wet spring-like). These are numbers from the resorts: Kumanoyu: 5cm @ 7am Yakabitaiyama: 30cm @ 8:30am Different numbers but wind has been blowing the snow around in blizzard like conditions so there will be variations. Bottom line though - an excellent new layer of fresh snow on the slopes. Roads are currently covered and you need to come prepared for mid-winter like conditions. Before the end of the day the sun might break through the clouds and over the next few days sunshine is expected along with milder conditions. It does not look like there's a bit warm up imminent though which is also great news. And --- snow early next week? Can hardly believe it. Though very happy. We have more snow - this is what the ski resorts are reporting this morning: Hakuba Goryu: 5cm (Toomi base); 20cm (top) Hakuba 47: 10cm (base and top) Hakuba Happo-one: 10cm (top of Riesen quad) I am measuring 8cm. It sure doesn't feel like April at the moment with lovely fresh snow on the ground and a really decent amount up there on upper slopes. Conditions should be excellent this morning. The clouds might disperse more as the day goes on and we might even get some sunshine before the end of today. A high of about 4C is forecast here in the village this afternoon. When might this late season snow surprise continue until? Well, we are likely going to see clearer skies and warmer conditions from tomorrow for a few days, but there appears to be more snow on the forecast around Monday next week?! When we look back at the story of this season this last burst of snowfall is going to really stand out. OK so there's another 20cm of fresh snow being reported on the upper slopes of the resort and there's some snow down to base as well which is great to see. What an odd last few days it has been... though no complaints! There was a break in the snow during the day yesterday but back to it by night. And it doesn't look like it has finished just yet with snow due on and off into tomorrow. Nice! The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Zao. And do I have news for you. OK so yesterday there was 12cm of snow that I measured and this morning there's another 16cm. So that's 28cm that I am adding to the report today. Mindful of the day, can I just say that this really isn't a joke! The fresh snow has given the dirty looking snow a nice clean new layer which is very pleasing and the folks here to ski and board should be very pleased with their lucky timing. The snow will probably ease off later but there is still snow on the forecast over the next few days. So there might well be more cm to report. Parts of the mountain now closed but still quite a big area available with the lifts below still operating. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We move into April and into the final part of the ski season (though this last section of the season is due to last for 5 more weeks). Fresh snow as well. This morning the resort is reporting 15-20cm of snow on the upper slopes. Talk about starting April in style, and with more snow due tomorrow. The clouds are due to clear later on and we may see some sunshine before we click back into snow. The resort is scaling back operations from today. See below for notes on the planned available lifts and open courses at Nozawa. There is still a large amount of terrain available and conditions should be very unlike April up there this morning.
