The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Good news too! A real wintery night and a decent amount of fresh snowfall has covered everywhere. I am adding 12cm to the report; Kumanoyu are reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall; my friend over near Okushiga is saying 'over 20cm'. This is what we want. Actually, always want more, but you know what I mean! Kumanoyu is again part open from this morning. They have their Number 2 pair lift operating (up to mid-station) and plan on the day from 8:30am until 4:15pm. While it is still cloudy we might get some clearer skies later on and very probably some sunshine tomorrow as well as milder temps. We should be back to colder conditions early week, hopefully with more fresh snow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 11cm Posted on Saturday 30th November 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A bit of snow overnight, just enough to almost defeat the 2WD mini van that tried to come up the slope leading up to Akakura Kanko early this morning. He almost went diagonal on a slight turn partway up; get your snow tires on, get 4WD and some chains! He's lucky he didn't block traffic.... It's going to go away, as the freezing line moves up over 2,000 meters and we get some heavy rain on Monday. Typical for the season, though. It will be cold again a few days after that, so we'll start adding more to the total snowfall for the season, even if the base will probably reset to 0cm. The wonders of nature! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 0cm Posted on Friday 29th November 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Some very light snow lazily falling down to near base areas at times yesterday and this morning snow can seen down close to lower areas, not quite down to the village. Good to see a covering on other webcams as well. The first two images this morning are from Happo-one and Tsugaike Kogen. Hakuba 47 are reporting a thin dusting of snow and that their snow making machines are working hard - if temperatures allow they won't be taking a rest... Right now there is quite a bit of blue sky opening up and sunshine. It's all looking very beautiful. Though I think we would rather be in the middle of a blizzard at this point. Perhaps some snow tonight, though slightly milder temperatures are due over the weekend especially around Sunday. It should be colder as we enter next week though and hopefully the first part of next week will bring us that snowfall we are eagerly awaiting. And good news as well as we approach the weekend. It was colder yesterday and a some cm of snow on the ground by late afternoon. It's cold this morning too and I have a total of slightly over 10cm to add to the tally since my last report. No doubt there will be more than that higher up on the mountain. Before we get too carried away, we are still due for a milder spell over the weekend but early next week temperatures look set to drop again with some very good snow potential lined up. Yey! Resort-type folk are no doubt frantically looking at the forecasts, preparing to make their preparations, preparing to prepare to make their preparations, and quite possibly losing a bit sleep about how the coming days will shape up. Of course, everyone wants to get open as quickly as possible, but there's certain conditions that need to be met in order to do so. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 4cm Posted on Friday 29th November 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . I am going to put in a report here, because we did get measurable snow and it should go in the record. Total snowfall is of course total snowfall, and while it's probably going to get washed out by rain over the weekend (as the freezing level goes back over 2,000 meters), the mountain may get more snow. So we officially begin today (which is still Thanksgiving in the States, and we are thankful for snow). It's actually a nice day right now. The trees are sparkling with drops of water from the snow melting in the sun, and it is sunny, which we are also thankful for because pretty soon we might not see the sun for extended periods. The joys of mountain life (it's much better when we can be out skiing in that gloom and snow, of course). Looks like we could get a decent fall overnight, too. Will report if it falls!
