The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Late report today, after an early one yesterday. Good day to clean up after all the snow of the past two days; good day to get new info from most of the resorts (you’d think by 10 in the morning they’d all have fresh news up, but one at least still hasn’t posted). Nice to be late because things have really changed, from a few last, big, star-like flakes falling to increasing sun and blue skies. Powder and bluebird is not a normal combination here! Should be a sunny one tomorrow as well. After that snow in the morning, we got to enjoy some sunshine... and we are back to snow overnight. The ski area reports up to 25cm of snowfall overnight on the upper slopes, with 15cm around lower areas. We might get some more before it stops sometimes today, leaving us with - probably - some sunny skies tomorrow morning. It should be a fine weekend, both in terms of the snow to enjoy and pleasant weather. Just hope it doesn't warm up too much in the coming days. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . More snow overnight (after a starry close to the day— thought I might get away without plowing this morning). Strong winds in the early morning meant lots of drifting snow around the house and general low visibility. The wind is not quite so strong at the moment, but it’s still blowing, so watch for potential lift closings, especially the gondolas (I guess this is the first test for Akakan’s new, red gondola cars....) I have to file early, so the resorts probably won’t all have new reports up (grumpy comments to come on a less busy morning!) - Furano Now: Friday 17th January 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 308cm Posted on Friday 17th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good morning skiers and boarders, Woke up to snow coming down, and it's still coming down. I measured 6 cm at the SnowJapan weather station, all of that coming this morning. So freshest of the fresh powder right now, right out of the sky. Get your manna while it's hot. Fair warning: It looks like there will be a warming event on Monday, Jan 20. Temps forecast to rise to +4 C. Man I hate writing stuff like that. Anyway, the same day as Trump's inauguration. Coincidence? You decide. In case I haven't mentioned before, Lift B on the Furano side is closed for at least several weeks because of a mechanical failure. Looks like new parts must be fabricated. This increases traffic at the Ropeway. Question of the day: When will the Kitanomine magic carpet open? Will it ever open? Is it also broken? Is there a conspiracy afoot? According to my Intel sources, it is not broken, but they are "waiting for more snow" so they can build the big pile at the bottom to stop uber-beginners and kids on sleds from missiling into the restaurant. True? You decide. Think snow. Furano: All lifts except B. Kitanomine: All lifts except magic carpet. Night skiing until 6:00 PM on both sides. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Lots of fresh snow, just how we love it! Official new snowfall numbers are patchy this morning (see below) but it sure sounds like there has been a ton of fresh snow on upper mountain. [** Updated] Japan Meteorological Agency reports 37cm over the last 24 hours, and my own measurement is 40cm. We got most of that from late afternoon through early morning. It's still snowing this morning, lightly for now, and forecasts generally indicate it to be easing off this morning. The clouds might even part to give us some sun. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 487cm Posted on Thursday 16th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hakuba greetings to you all. There's more snow. Cortina, the most northerly ski area in 'the valley' is reporting the most new snowfall this morning, 50cm. Others are showing more modest - but still respectable - numbers, as you can see below in the list. There has surely got to be a typo going on with the Happo-one snowfall numbers this morning. An incredible 105cm at Kurobishi and only 5cm at Usagidaira? That's what it says. Just noticed that the time stamp on the 105cm is from yesterday. Please bring your own salt. My own measurement is 15cm. At 8:45am we have a mix of visibility, ranging from very poor in places to good in others. Some blue sky is starting to appear in places and it feels like we might get to see more of that later in the day, though we do expect some more snow before tomorrow morning. Beyond tomorrow, weekend visitors might be pleased to see sunshine forecast for Sunday. There's actually not much snowfall forecast through at least the middle of the week so from the weekend we might have to make so with what we have for several days. But we have plenty, and conditions are excite and fab. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Top: 10cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 395cm Top: 165cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park New snowfall (reported as 'todays snowfall' by the ski area): Top: 10cm Base: 5cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 395cm Base: 200cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 50cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 380cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 105cm Usagidaira (1400m): 5cm Nakiyama (800m): 0cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 415cm Usagidaira (1400m): 302cm Nakiyama (800m): 155cm ------------ Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field New snowfall (reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 20cm Village Side: 20cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 300cm Village Side: 160cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 390cm ------------ Jigatake New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 210cm ------------ Kashimayari Skijo Family Park Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 235cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 0cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Upper: 329cm Base: 111cm ------------ White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 230cm Hakuba Now 2024-2025 season Data as Thursday 16th January 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 487cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 37 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 38cm (28th December) November 2024 snowfall 42cm reported on 3 days December 2024 snowfall 278cm reported on 21 days January 2025 snowfall 167cm reported on 13 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba.
