The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Lots of fresh snow since yesterday as the mid-winter cold conditions have returned. As you can see from the numbers below, the ski area has reported over 70cm of snow on the top Yamabiko section since yesterday. My own measurement from base is less than what the ski area has posted, but more than the nearby JMA measurement point (which is at 30cm). Whatever... there's lots. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from a mid-winter Shiga Kogen. It's cold, it's windy and it's snowy. Very early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 40cm of fresh and I am hearing reports of 30-70cm across the area. That biggest number coming from Okushiga Kogen. My measurement is 42cm. Lots of snow again. But some unfriendly weather conditions for the moment; conditions that are set to continue for perhaps a few more days to varying degrees. Snow clouds are expected to be across the region right through the weekend and perhaps even into early week. - Myoko Now: Tuesday 18th February 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 48cm Snowfall at base this season 1337cm Posted on Tuesday 18th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The wind and snow came as expected, right during the lunch hour yesterday. Kind of fun to be on the forested runs that are a Myoko feature and have the trees get stripped of all their snow by a big blast of wind. It was still really windy when I woke up early to start the day's plowing, but it calmed down before sunrise. It is dense snow, shaped and piled up by that wind. The kind of snow where it can be hard to move through boot-high powder unless you have a pretty good angle to the slope. It's calmed down at the moment, but we're supposed to get more wind today and especially later tomorrow, along with more snowfall. Lifts remain vexing, readers. Akakura Onsen's Yodel No. 1 did not run at all yesterday, even though the website said it was running. Today Akakan's Champion No. 3, the lift linking Onsen with Akakan, is also closed. It does happen after high winds and snow, I know, but I wish we had a bit more (better) information to share with you. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . We're back to the snow and cold! Or, we were. Right now, there the clouds have cleared a bit and there's even a bit of blue sky. But it should be snowing again before too long and it's expected to continue through the week. Happo-one is reporting 50cm of fresh snowfall up at Kurobishi (sugoi!) but 0cm a few hundred meters away at Usagidaira (huh?!). And 15cm at the top of the Riesen quad lift. Curious. On the Hakuba Valley official website, Tsugaike is reporting 42cm of fresh snowfall and the 'season-so-far' total for that ski area is still stuck at 269cm. Funny!
