The latest Niseko Now report can be found here . Good afternoon from Niseko. This week a fair few people have been seen hiking up the mountains to get a closer look at the snow up there. Or indeed just to get a feel of the mountain again. I was up there myself a few days ago, on the 5th - it was a rare day at this time of year when the skies are clearer and we were treated to some magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. The snow caps on Youtei and Annupuri were looking almost...cute, as my colleague commented! It was great to be able to get out walking on the snow again, though there really wasn't a huge amount - just patches really. The resorts have been busy of late making final preparations for the snow and the hills are now looking ready, stripped of their summer growth and just waiting to get that beautiful snow to fall. Today started off with a lot of cloud around and there's still a lot covering the top half of Youtei but some blue skies now over the ski resorts. Temperatures have been hovering under double figures during the daytime at base. It looks like we might get to see some more sun over the weekend, but it should stay nice and cold. Rain is forecast early into next week but things are looking promising for snowfall - at least higher up on the mountains - around Tuesday and Wednesday. With the resorts hoping to open in a few weeks, all eyes will be on the forecasts and what Mother Nature brings us as we get closer. Talking of which, below are the dates that the ski resort areas are hoping to be able to open on: 23rd November Niseko Grand Hirafu Niseko Annupuri 1st December Niseko Village 8th December Hanazono Let's hope they can. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here . A very wet and gloomy end to the working week in contrast to the stunning blue skies this time last week. It has been a very wet week overall here in Niseko and the heavy rain looks likely to continue throughout the weekend and into the middle of next week. Temperatures haven't dipped as low as perhaps we would have liked with current daytime figures in the high single digits. The top lifts might get a nice dusting over the weekend with the temperatures at those altitudes forecast to dip below freezing before rising again after the weekend. The rain and wind have stripped most of the autumn foliage away and the landscape is looking more bleak and barren at the moment - something a nice coating of white will fix up nicely. Bring it on! Niseko hopes to have ski lifts open from November 23rd this season and the countdown to opening is just 3 weeks away! It is a cloudy start to the last day and thankfully not so windy with the gondola up and running for one last time. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It has been warm. A warm day yesterday, up to 18.4C in the village in the early afternoon. Today is starting mild and overcast. The forecast for tomorrow is clearer skies again. We might see some dips of course but the generally warmer weather is perhaps now hear to stay. (People will be reaching out for air conditioners before too long...!) The Yamabiko B course will not be available to the general public on Saturday and Sunday due to an event being held there. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . There has been a dusting on places where it first accumulates, and I feel I can just about report 1cm. (It has since gone from roads outside my place). I am hearing that there has been even more of snow up in higher elevations. A friend just showed me a photo and it looks like there may even be multiple cm of snow up at Shibutoge. Earlier cloud has been clearing and there's now some blue sky to see too. It is keeping pretty cold. Sun probably tomorrow and Thursday. Warmer conditions are coming Thursday onwards. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Morning from Zao. A cloudy morning with what looks like a lot of fog up in top areas. The ski area was reporting light rain earlier on. We can probably expect some rain at times over the next few days; but maybe some sun too if we are lucky. The information on the official website differs from the information on the daily info sheet the ski area produces. As such, the status of a few lifts on the mountain are unclear. I'll try to get beyond feelings of frustration with the conflicting information and try to find out. (How difficult can it be to produce clear information about what lifts you operate are open each morning?) The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa Onsen. The ski area is reporting light rain up on the open areas as of just before 8am, but hopefully that won't last long. Looking at webcams it looks like there is some sun up there now, so that's good. From today through Sunday, the Uenotaira and Paradise quads are scheduled to be open. The Rinkan course (down to base) and the shuttle bus between bases finish up for the season today. Tomorrow will probably be sunny and a bit warmer. Roads are damp but fingers crossed we will get a generally fine day today... and tomorrow too. Quite warm conditions too, maybe up to around 15C in the village.
