The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . It has been a sunny day in Myoko; things were getting pretty spring-like out there -- crumbling snow walls, some soft snow in places, hard in the shade. Nice views of the mountains at the end of the day. OK, a short message today after a super long one yesterday (and no new snow, so nothing really important to say). Tomorrow all set to be warm too. Rain is looking likely later on before snow into Saturday, fingers crossed. (The snow bit, not the rain bit). The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A stand in reporter today from Myoko as the famous Mr Myoko Now takes a well-earned rest after an eventful day/night... I think he will very probably tell you more about all of that in his report tomorrow. Anyway, snow yesterday and a bit more overnight amounting to perhaps 30cm in total again. Strong winds on the mountain overnight though in particular, meaning that there's deeper pockets in places. This morning the wind has dropped down and we have been treated to a bluebird day. Lovely skies and perfect weather for skiing and boarding with views! Excellent snow conditions too. It was a cold start but has warmed up early afternoon. We're set for a few days of milder temperatures now before likely snowfall in the run up to the weekend. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 40cm Snowfall at base this season 1258m Weather overview Light snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Variable Posted at 9:55am on Monday 25th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Yesterday was one of the classic Myoko snow days. So much snow, and it kept on coming. Since the report yesterday morning there has got to be another 40cm to add to the snowfall in this latest storm - 30cm or so yesterday and another 10cm overnight. Earlier on got a bit of sun but it's a mostly cloud morning in Myoko with light snow showers in places. A clearing pattern is due though and tomorrow might be one of those lovely sunny days. Or it might not, depends on whether the forecast is right. I reckon we're on for one of those though. It does look fairly sure though that milder temps are due along with more sun than snow from tomorrow through until near the end of the week. Topup of fresh snow just before the weekend. For now though, large volumes of quality snow and excellent conditions. Just don't overdo it and remember the potential dangers. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Sorry about yesterday - a little glitch on my side (an iPhone that refused to send, while on a break from having too much fun in a lot of new snow). The report was written though, it just didn't 'go' unfortunately. Anyway after a nice, sunny Friday, the snow really turned on yesterday, with -- what should we say? 50cm? 70cm? I was skiing in it, so I'm allowed some hyperbole. A lot. Then the stars came out last night, lulling some into thoughts of another sunny day - but no! Another 30 cm or so again today. To say that snow conditions will be excellent today would be an understatement. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Sorry for the late report, but...I told you so! Yesterday's fine weather just seemed too strange, and it was. Suddenly around noon the snow started falling, and falling hard, and kept on falling. Let's say 50-70 cm--somewhere in there! Lots of snow and it keeps on going (which meant a snowthrow session from 6 am, delivery of people here and there, yes a little skiing, and we just keep on going). Tomorrow: I would guess snow, although it looks like we might have a little sun in the morning. Just to fool those bluebird fans once again to coming out, before another massive dump comes in? The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . There's a great word that pilots and sailors use - "sucker hole" - for a short spell of nice weather that suckers you into thinking it's going to be a nice day. It's sunny right now in Myoko, and I can see people who like the sun all excited about going out. But it ain't going to remain, I'm pretty sure! It's already grey over the mountains, almost certainly from snow as well as clouds. This morning's news warns of possible heavy snow along the Sea of Japan, meaning here, of course. Not too much fell over night, although it was the nicest, big, sparkly stellars (star-like) flakes. The kind you want to ski in. Hopefully, more is coming soon. Apologies to the bluebird fans. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Snow is falling, and it seems to be picking up in quantity (and the quality doesn't look too bad either!). Yesterday we never really got to full rain--so I didn't post an update (let's say it got as bad as very wet snow, although just a few hundred meters down the hill it was genuinely raining hard). Now it's back to the good stuff, and colder temperatures. Not that much accumulated since yesterday, but now things are starting to get covered up again. Pretty strong winds earlier made me worry we might see some lift closures, but the big gusts are down now. Only Suginohara No. 3—which always seems to close for "course inspection" when the winds are up, is questionable at the moment. Check before you go. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Be careful what you wish for: one of the fine people behind this website and I were chatting yesterday about how we miss the almost-emergency days of the past few years when the snow takes over daily life.... well, it almost happened today. Lots of snow, lots of wind, drifting, blowing, probable lift and train stoppages (no shower in the house at first too--blocked exhaust pipe). Ah, the joys of snow country. Hard to tell how much actually fell, because there was a lot of drifting, but it was a lot, and the density is pretty high. Let's say probably half a metre. Offpiste, things are a little sketchy; we did see some avalanche debris in valleys below some steep open faces two days ago, probably some sliding over the rain crust that was still persisting in the snowpack. We'll be digging today, so I'll let you know how things are changing (but be careful, and watch for sluffs at least on the steeps today). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 1050m Weather overview Sun with some cloud Wind Calm Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted at 10:13am on Sunday 17th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . After a day of steady snowfall, the stars came out about 9 pm--following some beautiful, big, star-shaped flakes floating down (wish we had more of those, instead of the smaller, wind-packed flakes that made things slow in the powder except on steeper slopes). Tip of the day: look at the snowflakes falling on your jacket; compare with the ski conditions. Something to do on the lift... A nice, sunny, calm start to the day, with some light clouds starting to move in now. Snow is on the forecast ahead for the coming days--maybe another big fall, too! For the backcountry crowd: a dig yesterday shows a pretty stable snowpack. There is a layer down about 70 cm (probably from sun late last week) that resulted in isolated breaks on steep rolls and other features. There's more fresh on top today, so exercise caution, don't go out without your gear (too many people with no beacon shovel or probe--never a good idea), and have some safe fun! The day started with some continuing light snow, after the most perfect snowflakes late last night--big, sparkly star-like flakes that probably meant great powder this morning (while I sit at my desk---grrr--but I'm out in a few minutes).
