It was a clear and blue sky day though this morning it has clouded over and at the moment a bit of snow falling from the skies. The forecast for tomorrow is sun and possibly clear conditions until later in the day when there's a chance of snow to be back and those conditions due to continue through into the weekend. It does look like it will be relatively mild for the rest of the week though. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 509cm Weather overview Cloudy, light snow at times Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Varied Posted at 2:34pm on Sunday 24th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The snow really hit Furano hard yesterday, blanketing the whole town in anywhere from 10 to 20cm in the heavier snow bands. There are still a few flurries lingering around out there, but all the nasty winter weather subsided overnight, leaving in its a wake a frigid air mass that saw overnight lows plummeting towards the -20C mark. There are a few breaks in the cloud, and things have warmed up significantly from this morning. It's currently -6 with light winds out of the North/Northeast, but nothing too harsh hitting you in the face on those windward runs. Weather-wise, today is shaping up to be a nice and quiet Sunday, but it's almost nice to have a break after all the snow that fell yesterday. • Furano Now: Saturday 9th February 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 422cm Weather overview Cloud, snow showers Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Good Posted at 10:55am on Saturday 9th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Another day, another round of getting hammered by overnight snowstorms in Furano, and last night was no exception. High winds and heavy snows picked up late last evening and left us with 10cm+ in the village. Things have quieted down for now, but the snow showers are still coming periodically in an on/off fashion. They're calling for the snow to pick up towards the mid-afternoon, but with all the snow we've received over the last two days, there's already plenty to go around. The resort has raised their official snow depth to 180cm. Again, the winds have been a huge factor over the past two days, so a lot of the lighter, drier powder has been pushed up along the sides of runs, leaving scanty little fresh for the middles of open courses. As for the ski lifts, there are no closings to report at the moment. However, the official statement from the ski resort for today says that they will monitor the wind situation and make adjustments accordingly. The sun is peaking out behind the clouds occasionally, and the winds, while still gusty at times, have died down considerably when compared to last night. Also, temperatures are well above the seasonal average, clocking in at a surprisingly mild (for early February) -4 at 10AM. All in all, it's a great day to be out on the mountain. Furano Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Saturday 9th February 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 422cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 56 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 20cm (6th January) November 2012 snowfall 69cm reported on 10 days December 2012 snowfall 162cm reported on 21 days January 2013 snowfall 130cm reported on 20 days February 2013 snowfall 61cm reported on 5 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Furano. • Furano Now: Sunday 3rd February 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 371cm Weather overview Heavy snow Wind Strong Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted at 10:50am on Sunday 3rd February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Winter is back with a vengeance. It's currently -8 with white out conditions that started overnight and have continued all day, completely eradicating all traces of yesterdays warm spell. Strong winds at times have grounded the Kitanomine Gondola off and on throughout the day, but the other lifts have stayed in operation. The big story is the blizzard we are experiencing right now. We've got 10cm+ of new snow pushing us up to the 160cm mark, and that's only the powder that's managed to stay in one place. It's really coming down out there, but the wind is so strong it's piling up the powder on the leeward sides of runs, making some real treasure troves that will still be there for tomorrow's early birds. Despite the conditions, there were still plenty of skiers out there this morning. For those of you headed out this evening, be sure to keep your face covered until these winds die down. The forecast calls for the snow to taper off this evening, but for now it's still a little rough out there. Tomorrow should be a quiet start, with cloudy skies and snow in the forecast for the evening ours. The pistes are fairly firm today but have been well groomed overnight. There are still some good pockets of fresh powders to the sides of the main runs. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 336cm Weather overview Sunny Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Very good Posted at 9:44am on Monday 21st January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The weekend proved to be pretty good overall with a decent amount of fresh snow being deposited on Saturday and then to a lesser amount on Sunday. This seemed to bring the powder hounds out of the woodwork with many turning up with skis the width of a snowboard. Sunday's temperatures were pretty warm which look likely to be repeated again today. This made very pleasant weather to ski in in terms of not having to deal with the usual Furano cold, however the warmth got to the snow pack so expect some mild frosty areas out on the mountain today. Overall it looks like another great day with blue skies and mild temperatures. The next significant snowfall is forecast for Thursday night through Friday. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Today was unseasonably warm with a high of -2, some of the warmest weather we've seen all year. The flakes were flying off and on, but we didn't see anything too major in the way of accumulations. We got a rough total of 5cm of fresh, and the slopes were happier for it. For those of you winding down the day with night skiing, getting in a few runs, you are really in for a treat temperature-wise. The winds are present at 2-4 m/s, but nothing too terrible to worry about. Tomorrow should be more of the same warm(ish) weather, with the clouds moving out around daybreak, leaving nothing but sun and blue skies, a stark contrast from today's cloudy weather. It looks like Furano is in for another bluebird day tomorrow! The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It was cold one overnight, but a blast of snow earlier this morning was a good way to wake up to the weekend. We saw about 5-10cm of the fluffiest, softest snow around, and those out on the mountain were in for a real treat. Things have quieted down a bit since then, but the forecast calls for cloudy skies, the occasional snow shower, and a bit of a warm trend with highs that will take us near -4. Compared to yesterday's high of -11, that's practically a heat wave. Warmer temperatures generally mean bigger snowflakes, so hopefully we will see some significant snowfall accumulations over the next few days. If you were after a private mountain experience today would be the day. At 8:30am on the Kitanomine side only Furano Now appeared to ride the first lift and then at 9am for the start of the Gondola the experience was repeated. Early morning there was low cloud covering the mountain but this soon lifted by the time the lifts started up and it has been a clear day with fantastic views. There have been a lot of people skiing the ungroomed areas over the weekend so they are well tracked at the moment - another decent snowfall is needed to return them to top condition.
